Look At These Cute Baby Chicks! (But Don’t Buy Them)

Look At These Cute Baby Chicks! (But Don’t Buy Them)

Baby chicks are some of the most adorable creatures on the planet. They are tiny, fluffy balls of cuteness. And during this time of year, they get tons of attention. While it might be tempting to get one of these adorable creatures, most of us do not have the knowledge and resources to properly care for them.

According to Adam Goldfarb, director of the Pets at Risk program for The HSUS, “People often don’t realize the level of commitment that these animals require. The animals that people associate with Easter, like chicks and baby rabbits, have complex social and nutritional needs. They can’t be caged continuously or relegated to the basement or garage.”

However if you genuinely do want to invest the time and resources into raising an adorable baby chick into a full-grown chicken, really take the time to research the topic and assess if having a chicken is feasible for you. Homeowners with plenty of yard space and even city dwellers have adopted chicken companions and have enjoyed the benefits of hyperlocal, cruelty-free eggs. The urban chicken movement is gaining steam and with this increased interest has come a wealth of information and resources. Bottom line: chicks are a commitment and that decision should be taken seriously.

Whew, PSA over. Now it’s time for cuteness! While many people associate “chicks” with chickens or ducks, we decided to celebrate baby birds of all kinds in this cute chick extravaganza (and when you’re done, don’t forget to check out some adorable bunny photos.) Enjoy!

These two have the owl stare down to a science.

Emperor penguins are known for the astonishing journey they take to mate and care for their adorably fuzzy chicks.

King penguin chicks, on the other hand, have luxurious fluffy brown coats.

Before turning their signature pink, flamingo babies start out a soft white.

Guess which bird starts with this spotted down? Seagulls!

We know storks bring babies, but who brings baby storks?

Baby emu fact of the day: According to Australian Aboriginal mythology, the sun was created by throwing an Emu’s egg into the sky.

“Are you my mother?”

I hope that people finally realize that these poor animals cannot be given as Easter presents! Take your kids to animal sanctuary to watch them or watch a movie like this about them but please don’t buy them because so many end up dying or having a terrible ending.
