Cool, completely refreshing, with delicate subtle flavors that make you want to pay attention, this healthful summer smoothie is an elegant treat for hot, humid days. I made this smoothie on a very hot and muggy day–as a special drink for my birthday, in fact–and it kept me cool for hours afterwards. It is also a drink that has a stature, making it a treat for celebrations.

If you have a ripe honeydew, the likelihood is that you will have everything else you need, and you can make this smoothie on the spot:

One half of a fresh, ripe honeydew melon

2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

pinch of salt

1/3 cup lemon-lime soda or ginger ale

6 ice cubes

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until slightly frothy.

Makes 2 servings.
