DIY: Rope Room Divider

DIY: Rope Room Divider

Here’s a clever idea for a room divider from Sydney-based Alwill Studio: a simple rope screen made with two wooden dowels.

Alwill Studio describes their design philosophy as, “influenced by the Japanese design concept of Wabi Sabi, our response to furniture and object design is rational, elegant, utilitarian + organic. Alwill believes in having a strong concept tailored to the individual client which informs and responds to every aspect of design, from the bigger picture buildings to the way one small object sits next to another.”

Below is a detail of the knots used to make the screen. See more of their work at Alwill Studio.

the comments here are astute, reminding the decorator that if this idea is used, there are some important considerations,...

the rope room divider certainly has a modern effect as seen in the illustration, and could be incorporated into many different living spaces, especially the creative loft area

got to add, it appears as a temptation to many to take hold and use the rope as a swing, - so perhaps if the rope were strong enough and tied to a very strong support beam, no mishaps would occur~

thanks for an earthy decorating tip!
