Was told by an eye doctor recently that it does not ruin your eyesight but it does stress your eyes out causing them to need more breaks in dim light and having a harder time to focus, just like staring at a computer/tv screen for too long.

P.S. video does not work for me.

Poor eyesight might require better lighting, but poor lighting does not cause poor eyesight. I have needed glasses since third grade, and I need lots of light- not just a tiny spotlight for the book or newspaper, but a well-lighted room as well. And I love to read...

Gee that brings back memories ..... reading under the bed covers with the lamp from my bike because my parents insisted I go to bed much too early !!!!
But kids now? I'm sure the number of hours they spend in front of their computers must be bad for their eyes (opposite scenario). Thoughts on that one, anyone?

Agreed. I heard this warning as a child, but learned many years ago that it's just a myth.
