Consumers Union has just launched an online resource evaluating all eco-labels found on food and wood products.
There are a number of criteria used by Consumers Union to evaluate eco-labels. These include that the labels are meaningful and verifiable; they are consistent and clear; they are transparent (all information used by the certifier is available to the public); the certifier is independent and protected from conflict of interest; and the certification standards are developed with opportunities for public comment.

we need a label that reads the plants for consuming were grown with vegan organic ways completely. no manure that even composting carries the deadly e-coli bacteria, says department of agriculture's (u.s.a.) web site. plus if animals including manure is used on soil for fertilizer there needs about a 3 years waiting period before its clean enough to grow plants for consuming. compostings takes different times depending on climate & mankinds ability to help it.
