Everyone commenting here seems to have missed the phrase "transitional period". Of course we need to find a way of meeting energy requirements that is clean and green - but that's still a long way off. In the meantime we are still burning a lot of fossil fuel and this could make a huge practical difference. As for damaging the earth, well of course I can't say whether it's a bad thing or not, time will tell I guess.

So we are still not to a commercial stage of this technology even after all the money and time that has been put into it? This might need to be part of the solution, but it should not be the focus!

A step in the right direction, but how are they going to get the emissions underground??? I would rather we stopped using coal altogether.
