I think of Olive oils, coconut oils as OILS and not so much fats. Good for us.

Amy Hendel is someone worthwhile to chew the fat with.

Always love olive oil, could never be without it. Certainly good advice to have a balanced diet and everything in moderation, even delicious macadamia nuts!

As for regular ground meat...whatever happened to the old days when cooks drained all the fat manually from the meat and turfed out the fat before making meat loaf or whatever? Takes only a bit of effort if one is on a low budget. For those of us already purchasing organic meat which is admittedly more expensive this certainly helps as the fat is much lower with pasture fed rather than the non-species specific GMO feeds/corn/grain. Knowing the bad fats is essential and certainly avoid margarine, it is not healthier than butter. Moderation is needed.

No palm oils!

Butter and animal fats are OK - as long as they are organic and have been pasture raised. The brain needs saturated fat, and fats fill you up so you don't crave so many carbs.

Vegetable oils mostly have too much Omega 6, whereas good quality fat and egg yolks have more Omega 3. I cook with coconut oil which is very healthy, and I'm sick of the fat myths. Jane J, I agree with you re butter

Please avoid palm oil whenever possible. Rain forests in Indonesia are burned and bulldozed so that oil palm plantations can be planted. Orangutans are shot, and elephants are poisoned when they try to return to their forest home- which has been turned into an oil palm plantation!
