Fight Ulcers With Arugula

You may find the latest remedy for painful peptic ulcers not at your local drugstore, but in your salad instead. Researchers recently discovered that Eruca sativa, an herb also known as rocket or arugula, helps reduce stomach-acid secretion that can irritate gastric ulcers, the type of peptic ulcers that form in the abdominal wall and can cause severe pain. Scientists speculate that arugula, already thought to help prevent cancer and stimulate liver health, affects ulcer activity by limiting stomach-acid secretion or by regulating hormones that protect the gastric-wall lining. Arugula also has high levels of antioxidants, which researchers believe may contribute to its anti-ulcer properties. The herb can be found in most produce sections and makes a tasty addition to salads, pizzas, and other dishes.
Arugula is available year-round in many supermarkets. Here’s three of our favorite recipes that use arugula, just remember to treat your ulcer kindly and skip the pepper!

In the end doing all one can to get and stay healthy often means less illness, period.
And one thing I know about gas producing vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower etc is that the more you eat them the more your body adapts and ends up not producing gas.

I believe Jane is referring to Helicobacter pylori infection. Dr Barry J. Marshall and Dr J. Robin Warren were credited with the discovery back in the early 80's. They were awarded a Nobel prize 25 years later.

Actually cabbage has properties that regulate stomach acud and can heal small ulcers. Just eat cole slaw or some other cabbage based salad, or if your ulcer is too painful and you don't want to risk aggravating it just make cabbage tea. (Cut a cabbage into large chunks and bring to a boil in a large pot of water. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 hours, adding water every so often. When the cabbage is mush strain the tea and add honey. Drink hot or cold).

I'm all for going as natural as possible, but in the case of gastric ulcers, science has proven that they are caused by an infection. For decades this was well known by veterinarins, but human doctors refused to investigate it, prefering to tell people to stop eating spicey foods and use expensive antacids. Well, finally one researcher (I wish I could remember his name) actually infected himself to prove it was an infection and used antibiotics to cure himself. That is now what should be standard treatment and if your doctor doesn't prescribe it you should get a new doctor!

ie, so avoid those products as well. Also, some people add sodium bicarbonate to cooking sauces & such. However, don't apply this to ulcers themselves or you will just get a mouth full of blood.
Ulcers are basically chemical burns.

I improved my condition by avoiding acidic stuff like caffeine and orange juice plus no more carbonated drinks. Broccoli sprouts tablets have also done wonders for my problem.
