Get a Bikini Wax, Support Cancer Research?

This past November (or, ahem, Movember), nearly 500,000 men across the world grew mustaches to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research. And it’s been wildly successful — since the movement got off the ground in Australia in 1999, Movember has raised $190 million USD.

And now, ladies want in on the action.

Enter Julyna, which aims to raise money and awareness for cervical cancer and HPV.  Instead of growing mustaches, though, Julyna is asking women to style their hair “down there”.

Women who take the pledge will spend July styling their bikini lines — the Toronto-based groups’ website even offers a number of creative styles to choose from.

To the surprise of Julyna’s founders, the Canadian Cancer Society even got on board with the campaign.

The goal is to raise $50,000 in July, both through the bikini line styles and a black-tie fundraiser.

What do you think about Julyna? Are you going to participate?

bikini waxsays:
Bikini wax is less painful than brazilain. If you are going to get them in shape like lines or triangle or small rectangle then be very prepared for the pain.but once its done then you can participate in fund raising ,so try it and go on.

Hello, my group is just establishing our first website, searching and working out what is needed. This blog stuck out right away. I'm fired up about this, and adore the design of your site. Are you able to let me know what "theme" it is?

Why would I torture myself? Thanks,

something that the public could see
to make the connection.

That is so hilarious! I can't wait to share this fb. Maybe tasteless, but for charity who cares. I have been toying with doing a heart for sometime, but don't like waxing much. Maybe this will be the incentive.

Debunktion time - First off, HPV and cervical cancer are of the highest risk to teens and younger women or uninsured who don't get to go see their gyno every year for paps. Spreading the info and awareness to those who NEED it (not those who regularly get screened anyway) is what this is about. This is a fun and cute way to get younger women into the "know." Secondly: no, waxing doesn't kill your sex drive or decrease sensitivity. Quite the contrary: having skin exposed increases sensitivity to touch; also waxing increases blood flow, circulation, and (pain response) stimulates adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine production - all of which aid in better sex. Also, no, no one but you (and whomever you want to share it with) will know your little secret, but who hasn't worn red bra and panties to work just because it makes YOU feel a little sexier. No, waxing isn't for everyone, and it might not even be for me, but as someone who's toyed with the idea, this is a GREAT chance to do it, and for a good cause!

How indicative of our society's perception of the respective roles of men and women is this farcical idea. Women give and give and give and end up with nothing. Any woman who would go along with this insulting suggestion already has lost her self-respect. That's right, women are Barbie doll sex objects and men are manly Wyatt Earp types. Maybe women should stop ridding themselves of facial hair or something .... or grow mustaches down below.
