I’m already starting to see ghosts and goblins, spider webs and tombstones, orange lights and witches, which can only mean Halloween is drawing nigh. While I don’t much enjoy dressing up, I really love Halloween. Go figure. I think it’s the strange conglomeration of icons we associate with the holiday: skeletons, bats, cats, pumpkins, broomsticks, spiders and spider webs, skulls and candy. I also really just like fall, which happens to usher in the whole Halloween gig. And of course, me being me, I like to gravitate towards making all days, and especially big consumer and waste days (i.e. Halloween) more green and sustainable.
Last year, in doing just that, and deciding to host a Green Your Halloween party at LiveGreene, our local green and sustainable gift store, I met the founder of Green Halloween TM, Corey Colwell-Lipson, and learned that greening your Halloween is a nation-wide movement! Who knew?
If you’re interested in attending a community-based Green Halloween event, check out Green Halloween’s events guide. There are now official events in 17 states across the country! If you don’t see an event in your town and want to host one, Corey and her team are more than happy to help and support you in your efforts!
Happy (green) Halloween!
