Green Summer Activities

I’ve been busy with several different projects this summer and feel like I haven’t gotten out and about much, but my friends have been travelling and projecting like mad and they’ve managed to incorporate green ideas and sustainability into their summer in creative ways. I was so impressed, I thought I should share the ideas with you:

1. Take the train to Tahoe (or beyond): Amtrak has great trips and routes, including service from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe – The Amtrak California Zephyr Eastbound trains leave Emeryville (with bus connections from various San Francisco locations) at 8:05 every morning. The train leaves Sacramento at 10:04 am and arrives in Truckee at 1:33 pm. and Reno at 3:06pm. There are also trips on the coast, up and down the Capitol Corridor and through the San Joaquin valley.

2. Take a bike ride out to the coast, or anywhere else in the Bay Area for that matter has a host of Bay Area bicycle maps and routes.

3. Repaint a room with eco-friendly paint. Nearly all major brands have a low-VOC or eco-friendly line, I’m a big fan of shopping at locally-owned stores, so I recommend your local ACE or small hardware or paint store.

4. Take a local hike – I prefer to call these long walks, it makes hiking seem so friendly and effortless – and a picnic (organic and from locally sourced farms) instead of driving somewhere and eating out.

That made me smile 'local hike'. :) No need to spend a ton of money or go very far to appreciate life and the nature around us!

ALso I put bleach outside in the bowl instead of putting in the washing machine or in the sink. So it will not go into the lake or into the Oceans either.

ANother idea: After I paint it with brush. I rinse it off with water pitcher outside where near my driveway. It's does not need grasses just dirt. Just rinse some water off. Instead of using sink. Cause it will send into the drain somewhere out in to the lake or into the Oceans. So we dont wanna to do that, right?

I'd love to do them all, but someone should post a note, with how to get your boyfriend to come along. :))
