While strolling Pacific Avenue downtown, and looking for said gift to myself, I was stopped by a very earnest and bright young woman canvassing for Greenpeace. We had a great conversation about which causes were most dear to us both and what Greenpeace was doing about several of them. Her goal was to get folks to sign up for a membership at fifty cents per day, or $15 dollars per month. An amount that seems to me a small price to pay to help the same company who convinced wholesale/retail giant Costco to redlist endangered fish and be a corporate industry leader for sustainable fishing practices. Not a small feat, that, and organizations who do that kind of work for us need our support, especially when it’s only to the tune of about one cafe-bought coffee and scone per week.
