Group Thinking

Group Thinking

At work today, I examined various Google Analytics metrics for my organization’s website. I was amazed by how consistent and predictable our visitors are – and how open to suggestion.

In some ways, this can be detrimental. It is why ad campaigns for soda and potato chips make us want to stuff our faces with toxic foods. But there are a number of benefits to this kind of behavior, as well. First, it means that we are more alike than we sometimes acknowledge. For many of us, the same things are appealing, and our brains follow similar patterns. And the fact that we share these qualities means we are able to feel empathy and express compassion – and it is why it is important to do so.

What is more, it means that our brains are open to positive suggestions, not just negative or mercenary ones. Positive thinking, therefore, really can have real-world effects. Similarly, complimenting others and expressing our gratitude impacts their psyches in tangible ways, as well. Being open to suggestion does not always mean we are easily manipulated. It can also mean we are open-mineded.

Thanks ..... what you have learnt is true. We are all more alike than different. Oh dear, except for the loud teenagers I hear in the street outside at times ... they have a lot of growing up to do before learning acceptable behaviour and consideration for others. (but that's not what you're talking about, I know).

I find it very off-putting when people have closed minds or when they have a negative outlook on life. It's almost as if they push people away ...

Personnaly, ads an t.v. annoy me. There are too few "good" ones, so I just hit the mute button on my remote, and go do a quick chore.I know that I have that choice, and do it. I can determine what is positive by myself, and not be influenced by an ad. thanks for the post
