5 Healthy Green Smoothie Recipes

Green smoothies are super hip right now, but not all green smoothie recipes are created equal. Check out these tasty, healthy green smoothie recipes to jumpstart your day!

Adding a dose of raw greens in your morning smoothie might sound a little bit … chewy. Maybe a touch bitter? But when you hit the right balance of greens and fruit, you really don’t taste the greens.

You also don’t need a high speed blender to incorporate those green and leafies into your smoothies. I’ve made hundreds of green smoothies in my bottom-of-the-line blender that I’ve had since 2006. If you’re not using a high speed blender, you just need to be a little bit more persistent. Blend, blend and blend some more, and don’t forget to let the motor rest for 10-15 seconds for every 1-2 minutes that you let it run.

Green smoothies don’t have to be a chore. You can mix up different fruits, greens, and even herbs and spices to make your morning smoothie tasty and healthy. Check out some of my favorite green smoothie recipes in this slideshow!

Chocolate Cranberry Green Smoothie

1. Chocolate Covered Cranberry


  • 1 large banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen, unsweetened cranberries
  • 1 leaf collard greens, rib removed
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1-1 1/2 cups almond, soy, or your favorite vegan milk

Cooking Directions

  1. Combine all of the ingredients (start with 1 cup of milk) in your blender, and blend until smooth.
  2. If things are a little bit stubborn about blending, add that extra 1/2 cup of milk to get them moving.

2. Raspberry Macaroon


  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • Handful of kale, ribs removed
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 cubes of ice


  • Toss everything in the blender, and blend until smooth!

Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie

3. Strawberry and Banana Green Smoothie


  • 1/2 cup frozen banana
  • 2-3 frozen strawberries
  • handful of fresh parsley
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons flax meal
  • 4 ice cubes

Blend until smooth.

4. Green Monster Smoothie

This recipe is a little bit more green-tasting than the rest of these smoothies, but if you’re ready to up the green ante, this is a great way to start!


  • 1 Haas avocado, peeled, pitted, and chopped
  • 1 apple, chopped and cored
  • 1/2 cup kale, ribs removed and chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1-2 tablespoons of fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1/4 cup frozen mango or pineapple
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 2 cups water


  1. Blend. Blend. Give your blender a break, then blend some more. Take another break and blend one more time for good measure. Drink!

Chocolate Chipotle Green Smoothie

5. Chocolate Chipotle Green Smoothie


  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 cup soy milk
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional)
  • 2 dashes chipotle chili powder
  • 1 handful green leaf lettuce
  • 4 ice cubes


  • Toss everything in the blender, and blend until smooth. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender a few times if you notice the cocoa powder sticking. You want to get all of that chocolatey goodness incorporated!
