Healthy Homemade Holidays: Natural Lotion

Women and men are increasingly looking for natural facial and body care products.  This face and body lotion delivers.  It is free of synthetic fragrances which tend to be primarily petroleum products, as well as artificial emulsifiers and preservatives.  This pure and natural lotion makes a great gift for the men or women in your life…or to enjoy yourself!

What you need:

A blender (preferably an older blender since the body butter can leave a residue)

A small- to medium-size glass bowl

A small saucepan

A spatula

Nice-looking jars to hold the body butter

Make sure all tools are sterilized before beginning.

See page 2 to learn how to make this rich and natural cream…

3/4 cup of pure grapeseed oil (you can use a different type of oil, but this one doesn’t leave a greasy film.)

2 Tablespoons of shaved beeswax (available in most health food stores—use an unscented beeswax tealight free of colors if you can’t find plain beeswax)

1 cup distilled water

15 drops bay laurel essential oil

8 drops Cyprus essential oil (if you can’t find Cyprus essential oil, you can just use more bay laurel oil).

In a small saucepan, shave 2 Tablespoons of beeswax.  Add the sweet almond oil and heat over low heat until the beeswax is melted and remove from heat.  Pour into a blender and slowly add the water or rose water until it emulsifies.  Add the essential oils and blend until well mixed.  Pour into the glass jars.  It stores in the fridge for about 6 months or at room temperature for 3 months.

So wonderfully simple.

I think it's strange the ingredients in the list are different from the ones in the directions. Where are your proofers, Care2?

Thank you, Michelle. I like the fact that this natural lotion is so easy to make. My skin has become increasingly drier as each winter goes by and your ingredients make a lot of sense to me.

What are the options for substituting out the bees wax? I'm very eager to try this, but that sub is stumping me.
