The problem with this proclivity for procreation is not only the obnoxious howling and yowling of cats in heat, but that far more kittens are born than there are people to adopt them. This means millions of kittens and cats are tragically euthanized every year. The best antidote to this lamentable problem is to spay and neuter as many cats as possible. Cats can start breeding as early as three or four months of age, so it is important to spay and neuter soon after they are weaned.
Spayed and neutered cats generally also make better pets – they are calmer, gentler, and less prone to fighting and wandering afar. So do yourself, your cat, and community a favor and make sure you spay and neuter your feline friends!
