How to Entertain Your Cat When You’re Away

3. Puzzles and Snacks

If your cat is into treats and snacks, a food puzzle toy can be a great way to keep him occupied. These typically ball-shaped toys are made to be stuffed with small pieces of food (or treats), which are released only when your cat figures out the right way to undo the catch or turn it the right way to make the treat fall out. This is good for stimulating your catís brain and his muscles. Most pet supply shops sell different versions of treat puzzles, or you can look online.

4. Soothing Sounds

The poet William Congreve wrote that “music has charms to soothe a savage beast.” We know this to be true for the savage man, and it is also true for our domesticated savage companions. If you find that your cat responds to certain styles of music, you can collect more of that style and set it up to play quietly on the home stereo while you are away. If in doubt, you canít go wrong with classical. Stick with the soft pieces, piano and string rather than trumpets and drums. There is also a large choice of soothing meditation music that you can play for your cat. Just donít be too surprised if you come home one day and find your cat in the lotus pose.

Sure, your cat is probably more than happy to spend her day alone. She needs her rest after a long night of resting, but enriching her environment with some extra toys, visual distraction, music or companions will probably end up being one of your greater ideas. If nothing else, it will ease your guilty conscience and make you a happier pet owner.

A fabulous and delightful topic, there are always so many suggestions of how to provide various forms of entertainment for the feline(s) in our home. Some situations are more challenging than others, especially if the cat that owns you is blind but there is always a way around that.

Yvette and others, it would be pleasant to read an article on the generic subject of how to keep a cat entertained/a dog getting groomed without you seeing the topic and jumping in to lecture readers about the crimes of others, be it unscrupulous breeders creating nasty defects in bulldogs/other dogs, to what an appalling and cruel species of morons the human species is and of course the GO VEG!(or Vegan)... to how cats (who weren't asked in the first place) were introduced by man to Australia and killed off a native species, to those hating cats considering the feline as vermin...or of course the "We have too many pets!!!" (Really, are you discussing Harvey/Matilda The Hoarder or you don't believe in the concept of pets for anyone? all of you...go take your gripes and write your own Care2 article for people to comment on where you can lecture at will!

Some of us just want to read an interesting article on the subject at hand without being subjected to The Cause, The Insults. Go eat your broccoli and leave the rest of us alone.
