Forgiveness isn't instantaneous. It may be easier to forgive the unknown person who cut you off on the highway, than it is for the family member who beat you, or molested you.

Of course, forgiveness in a relationship is nice, but didn't Jesus tell that murderer on the cross next to him that he was "forgiven"? I think murderers and violent criminals should be locked away from society but they shouldn't be murdered. That's just revengeful, isn't it? All people on death row are poor, many are feeble minded and/or come from disadvantaged homes. Shouldn't we forgive them? Is this "forgiveness" thing just about forgiving certain things and certain people? Who decides who and what we should forgive? Why aren't any billionaire murderers behind bars? Why should we "forgive" Newt Gingrich for stealing 1.6 MIL with insider trading and yet not "forgive" Martha Stewart and put HER behind bars?????
