Magical and Medicinal: Frankincense and Myrrh

Magical and Medicinal: Frankincense and Myrrh

No matter your faith or form of seasonal celebration, you’ve most likely noticed frankincense and myrrh resins, incense and essential oils start to pop up this time of year.

Many first heard of these resins through the story of the Three Wise Men (Magi) and their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh at Jesus’s birth; thus the connection to Christmas time.

While it may be easy to understand gold being a precious gift, in truth, frankincense and myrrh’s value far outweighs that of gold and extends far beyond biblical lore. These plants are healing on an emotional, physical and spiritual level and more than simply symbols of the season.

Next: The Magic of Myrrh.

I use frankincense and myrrh in the form of oil-dipped incense sticks. Yes, their aroma is calming. Thank you.

IF both Frankinscense and Myrrh were both used for medicinal Purposes for 5000 years and today's warming or Word of Caution reads "do not use during Pregnancy"; then the Wise men were not very Wise. Why would they have given two things considered dangerous to Mary, Jesus' mother? Something does not sound right here. Hmmmm maybe they were to help Joseph relieve himself from gas. LOL Anybody have any "intelligent" answers?

Interesting! We had some frankincense and myrrh a while back, they were part of a "gifts of the magi" Christmas decoration. They smelled really good! But maybe they smelled too good, because my dog was trying to eat them... He didn't actually eat any, I could just tell he wanted to try it, so we have to keep it up on a high shelf so that he can't reach it. Poor little guy, the smell really was driving him crazy.
