Maru: The Most Famous Cat in Japan (3 videos)
Maru loves boxes. My two cats Tigger and Kami love boxes too, especially Tigger. Alas, my interior decoration is a bit ruined by boxes scattered all over the floor. But what are you gonna do? Maybe you have the same problem.
Here are three takes on this problem, if it is a problem. They are all about Maru and his antics. Maru is famous on the Internet for his love of boxes. As of July 2010, videos with Maru, who has a particular penchant for charging and diving head first into cardboard boxes, have been viewed 56 million times.
Maru looks a lot like my Maine Coon cat Kami, though he is a lot more rambunctious. First we get an introduction to Maru’s antics during moving time, then we see what happens in slow motion, and finally we watch Maru as he tries to get the better of a very small box.
Maru at Moving Time
Lucky Maru. Moving time means all kinds of boxes and things on the floor.
He seems most attracted not to a box but to a tall trash can. It’s round, it rolls—what could be more fun?
But then he decides to take on an upside down box. He ends up prone under the box. But we know he is satisfied by his wagging tail.
The video on page 2 is my favorite, watch Maru leap out of boxes in super slow motion.
Maru Jumps in Super Slow Mo In and Out of a Big Box
Super slow motion lets us watch Maru from many angles as he goes in and out of boxes. Boxes are to Maru as water is to a fish.
On page 3 see what happens as Maru attacks a tiny soda six-pack wrapper.
Maru vs the Tiny Box
It’s a battle. Between big Maru and a very small box. The outcome should be foreordained. But is it?
Looks like the tiny box—it’s not even a box; just a soda bottle wrapper—wins. Maru is captured!
