Melting the Ice in the Heart of Man

SIRMIQ AATTUQ, Melting the Ice in the Heart of Man

I am Angaangaq, The Man Who Looks Like His Uncle and I have a true story to tell you.

As a traditional healer, storyteller and wisdomkeeper, I have traveled to the very top of the world and to the very bottom of the world to meet with the Elders of the villages. I have sat down at the feasts with the Grandmothers.

How much they are aware, aware of the changes in our world and the spiritual needs of mankind. I have been to places in this world where people did not know themselves, lost in the struggle of life, searching everywhere for the very love they seek.

I grew up in a small village in Greenland. The villagers were, and still are, fishers and subsistence hunters. We lived very much like my grandparents did - just living and surviving with the gifts of nature. Really there was nothing other than what Mother Nature brought us.

The Eskimo-Kalaallit people have a prophecy that when the once rock-hard glaciers become so soft that you could leave a handprint on them, this would be a sign that Mother Earth is in profound turmoil. I never thought I would witness the prophecy taking place in my lifetime. And yet, about 30 years ago now, one of my people came back to our village and reported a strange phenomenon. There is a trickle of water coming down from the ice cap. Today that trickle is a river of water and the ocean is threatening to swallow us all.

We can learn to listen to these ocean mountains of ice, speaking to us in a language of times past, so old that no one knows the age. Like time itself, standing still in front of you, awaiting the choices you are about to make and which path you will follow. The time has arrived for you and I to listen… listen… and listen more. Listen to the sound of your own heart.

The Qilaut, the Eskimo wind drum, is a Circle which has no beginning or ending, in which we all belong. Only The Great One, The Man Who Made Us - - holds the handle and every time He touches upon the rim, He Hears the heartbeat of mankind.

There is an old prayer that says that ‘My hope is that we will all have a strong heart beat, so we can be healthy together. And since it is your heartbeat, every time you talk to your heart, she will always speak back. The stronger the heart beat, the healthier mankind is. Do you hear the heartbeat of mankind? How strong is it? How strong can it be? Look at the world in which we live. Look at how we have set these changes in motion.

Mankind has never been so educated as we are today. The great knowledge we have gained throughout our lives has not changed us rather made life more difficult. We have not learned to use our vast knowledge wisely. Melting the ice in our hearts will enable us to use our knowledge wisely, to choose wisely.

As the ice is melting on the ground and the tears of Mother Earth are being released - it is as though the ice in the heart of mankind is being frozen - even harder than before. The harder the ice is frozen in the heart of man – the more difficult it is for man to change. My Mother Aanaa Aanaqqii told us that - unless the ice in the heart of man is melted then man will not be able to change.

The ice on the ground is easy to melt compared to the ice in the human heart. All you need do is to put your palm on top of the ice and within a minute the entire impression will become visible. That is how easy it is to melt the ice on the ground. But, as my grandmother, Aanaa Aaanaqqii would say, the hardest ice to be melted is the one in the heart of man and the time has arrived to do so.

I have traveled all over the world sharing these teachings. Unless we learn to grow up to our spiritual responsibility and become worthy of them, we cannot learn to melt the ice in our hearts or in the hearts of those around us. When you Melt the Ice in your heart, it makes a difference in your world. You then can help others Melt the Ice in their Hearts, and then we make a difference in our world… for times and times to come.

I pray that you and I will be better prepared, that we will learn to melt the ice in the heart of man.”

How do we start?

We start with a smile. The beauty of a smile can melt the ice in your heart without words. I pray that we will learn to make a difference in our lifetime.

So that we will have the time of summer and so that our children will have many, many more seasons to come.

I had an old link that I went to and nothing. I was devastated but I don't give up easily. I typed in "melting the ice in the heart of man" and there I was. The only thing missing it seems is the underlying music that used to well up-ahhhh. Hope this helps.
