Millions Against Monsanto March Towards Washington D.C.

5. Monsanto Blocking Government Regulations
A revolving door exists between Monsanto and US regulatory and judicial bodies making key decisions. Justice Clarence Thomas, a former Monsanto lawyer, was the one who wrote the majority opinion on a key Monsanto case. Michael Taylor once worked for the FDA, later represented Monsanto as a lawyer, and then returned as the FDA’s Deputy Commissioner for Policy when rBGH was granted approval. ▶

6. Monsanto Guilty of False Advertising
France’s highest court ruled in 2009 that Monsanto had lied about the safety of its weed killer Roundup. The court confirmed an earlier judgment that Monsanto had falsely advertised its herbicide as “biodegradable”.

7. Consumers Reject Bovine Growth Hormone
In the wake of mass consumer pressure, major retailers such as Safeway, Publix, Wal-Mart, and Kroger banned store brand milk products containing Monsanto’s controversial genetically engineered hormone rBGH. Starbucks, under pressure from the OCA and our allies, has likewise banned rBGH milk.

8. GMO Crops Do Not Increase Yields
A major UN/World Bank-sponsored report compiled by 400 scientists and endorsed by 58 countries concluded that GM crops have little to offer to the challenges of poverty, hunger, and climate change. Better alternatives are available, and the report championed organic farming as the sustainable way forward for developing countries.

9. Monsanto Controls US Soy Market
In 1996, when Monsanto began selling Roundup Ready soybeans, only 2% of soybeans in the US contained their patented gene. By 2008, over 90% of soybeans in the US contained Monsanto’s gene.

10. GMO Foods May Lead to Food Allergies
In March 1999, UK researchers at the York Laboratory were alarmed to discover that reactions to soy had skyrocketed by 50% over the previous year. Genetically modified soy had recently entered the UK from US imports and the soy used in the study was largely GM.

Robert O is a shill, or just a complete idiot-- look at his profile, just a shell with nothing filled out and no friends. No, it is you, Robert, who makes reasonable people with a brain sick to our stomachs.

GMO's can be a range of technologies. Some make the crops deeper rooted or Bt construct for pest deterring and some companies make the constructs you are all more familiar with. The possible *libel avoided* implications of certain companies are more far reaching than just GMO including how much harm does the pesticide/herbicide cause? Do they break laws? Are they are throughly tested as they should be (often they are not)? The opening quote is erroneous anyway: Kosher food ,Vegitarian cheese and some medications are GMO labeled and are still popular purchases. The march is not soley based on GMO's or the people would be storming AstraZeneca or Pfizer. This is multidementional, there was a great list on Care2 of contributions made by Monsanto, helping the us government with the manufacturing of agent orange and other substances. Polarized arguements prevent progess. Let the people of the United States unite their voices in liberty and self government, may I warn them to contest on evidence and not fear so their voices may be strengthed in the court of their peers.

Monsanto is not an ethical company and for Robert O. There are ways to feed the hungry but it is NOT through Franken Foods that will eventually hurt people. There is proven research that GMO foods are harmful to people and animals. Want to feed the hungry; go back to small farms and heirloom seeds, quit buying and throwing away food that you don't use we buy andconsume way too much food..... and most importanly don't support companies like Monsanto!

MONSANTO IS PURE EVIL and Americans have been too slow to wake up and have allowed so much damage to be done to their environment - they have got to be stopped at all costs before they and the evil people behind it contaminate and destroy the world

profit making companies are not helping subsistence farmers grow a little more - instead America grows lots of corn (with huge pesticide and fertilizer application) - fills our supermarkets with sweetened junk.

Oh it's so trendy for Americans to protest about Monsanto.

Yet it's companies such as Monsanto who are providing technology and training that helps feed hundreds of millions of people who would other wise suffer and starve to death.

Question: Have you ever seen and heard a human being who is starving to death - up close - so it's seared into your memory?

Answer: No, not if you are marching against Monsanto or supporting that march.

You protesters with your safe comfortable lives trying to make millions of people suffer horribly so you can feel righteous. You make me sick.

The politicians and companies such as Monsanto must stop sleeping together.Government relies on reports from inspectors and who are these inspectors ,but employees of monopolies such as Monsanto.Just another case of the fox guarding the hen house.

Monsanto should pay for all the deaths they have caused especially in third world countries were the suicide rate among farmers due to crop failures is inexcusable.

Kudos to all the marchers. I will be there in spirit. We must get some marches going in Canada!!!
I know I am not the only one wanting this huge conglomerate - Monsanto taken down.
We the people have the right to have natural food, and not chemically, genetically etc. modified food that hasn't even been given proper testing. Good Luck to the marchers!!!
