By the Care2 Staff.

Store-bought tooth-whitening strips contain chemicals that may not have been adequately tested for your health. Try these two all-natural kitchen cupboard tips instead: one comes from the Native Americans and has the side benefit of freshening breath. The other is used in Sweden and tastes divine. Both will help your teeth look whiter and brighter.

Strawberry Tooth-Whitener
Smart Swedes have used this idea for centuries: just rub a cut strawberry on your teeth for a few minutes, or allow crushed berries to remain on your teeth for 5 minutes. The malic acid in the berries will clean and gently remove stains.

Native Americans used sage to freshen breath and whiten teeth. Try this great formula from Annie Bond:

I love strawberries, and have heard that they whiten your teeth even while you eat them.

This may come as a shock to Madison Ave but not everyone is meant to have teeth the color of a denture ad. Ivory White Teeth are just as nice and go with some people's coloring. It's important for teeth to look clean and shiny and they will appear brighter. I like Supersmile. They sell small sample kits and great toothbrushes that aren't too expensive. Supersmile does gives a brighter look to your teeth and it does make them whiter. Toothpastes with sodium laurate can cause painful canker sores. They are very very painful. Hydogen peroxide cleans teeth but don't swallow. Gums should be pink and healthy, no matter what.

I read about lemon juice killing bacteria in the mouth more effectively than any mouth wash years ago. I used this for ages and when my dentist found out he went mad saying I would rot my teeth as well. Baking Soda was used in toothpaste years ago and is still available to purchase. I'll try the strawberries though.

I blend baking soda with pure and natural lemon essential oil, this creates somewhat of a paste that can be applied to your toothbrush. Lemon essential oil acts as a natural bleaching agent and offers lots of properties; antibacterial and antiseptic.
properties.

Sometimes I also add pure and natural peppermint essential oil to my mix to as an added breath freshener.

My dental hygenist just recommended I use aquafresh whitening strips. I don't even use bleached paper products, so I'm not sure I would use chemicals on my teeth. How do you use the baking soda trick? Thanks for the tip!

I dont know about strawberries, but I have used bakeing soda for years. I also had a mom that worked in a dental office...so I was always there for my check ups~ I know It did not hurt the enamil on my teeth at all. It takes the stains, like coffee and tea right away. I use it every few days, when ever my teeth need a brigten up~

Hi, Marie! Wow, you're a real Swede! Just goes to show you can't believe eveything you read; our source swore it was a Swedish tradition--thanks for the comment.

Marie Breskic

I have no idea who said Swedes use strawberries as teeth whiteners. I am a Swede. I lived in Sweden for 27 years and I think I would have noticed if we use strawberries for anything else but eating and sometimes facial masks which is a habit from abroad. On top of that the Swedish strawberry season is very short - we'd have to hurry with our teeth whitening treatments.
