This past weekend, my sweetheart threw a cardamom pod and a bit of cinnamon stick in the grinder along with the coffee beans and the resulting brew was heavenly. This got me thinking: What a great gift idea for the coffee-lovers on your list! Here are some great all-natural, no-artificial-anything flavored coffee ideas.

Start with good quality, organic, fair trade whole coffee beans. Add any of the following, place in attractive bags, and wait for the compliments. (Best to err on the side of caution and go easy on the additions.)

Dried chipotle or other chile pepper
Cinnamon stick
Cocoa nibs
Almonds or hazelnuts
Vanilla bean
Cardamom pod
Whole clove
Star anise
Dried orange or tangerine peel

I flavor my coffee with ginger!
Here's how: Peel skin off ginger, use a good amount so it will last for a week or so;about two fist size roots.Put in food processor or blender, with a small amount of water, about 2 tablespoons, and blend it to a pulp.Keep in a container in the frige. When you want to use it,take a spoonful, and press it through a strainer into your cup of coffee.Return the pulp to the container, you can replenish with a small amount of water, and keep using it,until there is not more ginger flavor in the pulp. You can use it in tea too.

Coffee ginders can cost as little as 12 bucks. they are designed better and you will get a more even grind with "burr ginders"(tis is the type of mechanism, not a brand.

I have a question. Can I grind coffee beans in my blender?
