How to Repair Your Hair with Olive Oil

After a long winter’s exposure to dry indoor heat, our hair needs some nourishing relief! Here’s the simple solution. This easy hair treatment will result in healthier, more manageable hair and a really clean, invigorated scalp. Olive oil nourishes, conditions, and improves the strength and elasticity of your hair, while the couldn’t-be-easier process is both stress-reducing and health-promoting.

Here’s how.

INGREDIENTS (enough for 1 or 2 treatments, depending on the length and thickness of your hair)

˝ cup olive oil
5 drops frankincense essential oil (others may be substituted, if you wish)
1 plastic bag that can fit over your hair

1. Pour olive oil into a jar with a lid, then add essential oil. Put lid on jar and shake well to disperse the essential oil. Let sit for 24 hours in a cool, dark place. Shake again before use.

2. Rinse hair with warm water. Warm 1 tablespoon of oil treatment in the palms of your hands. Using your fingertips (not nails), gently massage the oil into the scalp in a circular motion. Repeat until the entire scalp has been massaged. Rub the ends of your hair with the remaining oil.

3. Place a plastic bag over your hair, secure by tying or with a hair clip or clothespin, and allow the oil to remain for at least a half-hour.

4. Rinse well, then shampoo as usual.

Olive Oil is the magic trick!!!! I got a perm and the slylist fried my hair, it was like staw when I blow dryed it I looked like scary queen. I wash my hair once a week so I thought why not try olive oil, I had to do this for a year for my hair to return to it's beauty I was soooo happy.

To Whitney - I'm white and I use olive and other oils in my hair regularly. It depends on your hair type, not your race. Black people may tend to have dry curly hair, but so do some white people as well.

In my case the curl (and the dryness) are natural, not a perm, but from the sound of it your post-perm hair is prett similar to how mine is naturally, so why not try it?

I've also found it can be helpful to use a tiny bit of oil on my hair *after* washing and drying, basically the way you'd use a gel or a leave-in conditioner. Coconut seems to work better than olive for that, though. Use just a very little bit, melted by rubbing it between your hands (coconut oil tends to be solid at room temperature, unless you have a very warm house), and apply to your curls with your fingertips.

@ Whitney L.: Yes, you can use olive oil in your hair and on your scalp, and can help to lock in moisture on your wavy hair.

hey google

Whitney L.

ok this may sound dumb, but can a white person put olive oil in their hair( I don't want my hair to be oily)? I just had a perm and am NOT liking it at all. Will this help me? I am a natural wavy redhead w/ golden hilights. My hair went kinda straight after having babies, so I thought a perm would help..instead my hair looks like when I crimped it back in the 80's!! What I wanted was big soft loose curls...help!!

I've been using extra virgin olive oil on my hair for the past four months. I am biracial and I have found that the olive oil has begun to make my ends less frizzy. Plus, my hair does not shed as much as earlier in the year. In fact, I've noticed how much healthier my hair looks and it has begun to grow more. I highly recommend it!

Its good to massage your scalp with olive oil. It moisturise the scalp and conditions the hair. If the scalp is not dry u wont get that much of dandruff. So less dandruff and healthy scalp means less hair fall. Always cut the tip of your hair once every month so your hair wont get frizzy. Atleast oil your hair trice a week. Its a pain but remember no gains without pains.I wouldnt have shared it with you all if it wouldnt have worked.
