How to Repair Your Hair with Olive Oil

a Care2 favorite by Annie B. Bond

INGREDIENTS (enough for 1 or 2 treatments, depending on the length and thickness of your hair)

½ cup olive oil
5 drops frankincense essential oil (others may be substituted, if you wish)
1 plastic bag that can fit over your hair

1. Pour olive oil into a jar with a lid, then add essential oil. Put lid on jar and shake well to disperse the essential oil. Let sit for 24 hours in a cool, dark place. Shake again before use.

2. Rinse hair with warm water. Warm 1 tablespoon of oil treatment in the palms of your hands. Using your fingertips (not nails), gently massage the oil into the scalp in a circular motion. Repeat until the entire scalp has been massaged. Rub the ends of your hair with the remaining oil.

3. Place a plastic bag over your hair, secure by tying or with a hair clip or clothespin, and allow the oil to remain for at least a half-hour.

4. Rinse well, then shampoo as usual.

I have really frizzy, curly hair. I tried this with just olive oil. The first time I tried it my hair felt greasy. The second time I tried it and did a apple cider vinegar rinse after shampooing and my hair came out soft and not frizzy at all. I would recommend this for very dry hair!

Surprises me that some are more concerned about putting Olive Oil in their hair than what they put into their mouths. What's good for the inside is also good for the outside :)

There is no way I am putting olive oil in my hair!

Mix olive oil and honey in equal amounts to an equal amount of your organic conditioner , preferably Jasons Shampoo and Conditioner and wrap your hair in saran wrap and sit under the dryer for 30 mins...... AWESOME!!!

for chie and eva -- olive oil has more uses than for cooking. :)

my sicilian aunt used olive oil on her face for decades. when she was in her 80s she still had no wrinkles on her face or neck.

i use extra virgin olive oil, by the way.

l would like to find out if this olive oil you're referring to is the olive oil for cooking?

Combine equal quantities of Olive oil, Coconut oil and almond oil. Warm bottle of mixture in bowl of hot water. Use fingertips to gently massage warm oil mixture onto your scalp in circular movement for about 15mins. Place shower cap over head for half an hour. Shampoo and condition. Treat twice weekly - Also GENTLY massage scalp daily which helps stimulate blood to your scalp.Strengthens and stops hair loss. Also take Biotin tablets.
