One Million Care2 Butterfly Rewards: What Does it Get?
A Care2 member named Nyack Clancy is approaching one million Care2 Butterfly Rewards. These points are accumulated when members participate in the online community by making comments on articles, signing petitions, starting petitions, and other similar actions. One million points is such a milestone it seemed an interview was in order. Before that, just take a look at some of the charitable gifts those points earned.
• 475 trees planted
• 365 days of clean water
• 52 animals raised humanely
• 52 weeks of clean cooking
• 52 kittens fed
• 52 meals to cats
• 50 school meals
(These are just some of the donations made so far.)
How long have you been a member and what are some of the aspects of the site you enjoy most?
I first found Care2 in 2006. I love the focus on green living and the many ways the site is geared towards taking an action. I enjoy most the Care2 News Network, the blogs on causes, clicking to donate and the petitionsite.
How have you managed to accumulate so many points, and will you celebrate when you reach one million?
I have accumulated so many points by daily, persistent action after reading the directions on how to earn butterfly credits. I made these things part of my daily routine, just as I Click to Donate daily. I hadn’t thought much about celebrating. It is a milestone, but maybe if I reach 10 million butterfly credits I will celebrate. I have actually done very little in a world that needs so much.
What is your favorite charitable donation to make with the points?
I like being able to help animals, that is my passion. I have tried to keep somewhat of a balance between helping animals, people and the environment. I have planted trees whenever possible because without the oxygen that trees produce, nothing else will matter in the long run. Food, water and oxygen. I take it very seriously when scientists say, “trees are the lungs of the planet.”
Does your professional life or personal interests in the real world relate to the types of gifts you have made with your points?
My professional life ended with 9/11 in NYC and I became disabled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I was a veterinary technologist and in school for Zoology. Since then I have worked at and volunteered at local animal shelters and participated with different local animal rescue efforts. I have been a member of Greenpeace for over 30 years as the environment is also a personal interest. Caring for the planet, as a whole, has been a long time personal interest and I am sure that effects the type of gifts I make with points.
What would you like to give more of with your points?
I am content with the options available and think Care2 has done a terrific job in getting this new Butterfly Credit system up and running. I would hope in the future they will try to do more for wild animals and protecting their habitats, as they do with their Click To Donate options. Most especially the Endangered Species.
Are there charities outside of the site you support, and why do you like them?
There are a number of charities I have supported through the years outside the site. I support ending animal cruelty and abuse. I also support ending environmental damage. I tend to be most supportive of organizations that attempt to change laws through legislation.
What are some of your main interests in terms of improving society?
Spreading diversity through tolerance and acceptance. It’s a huge planet and there is room enough for everybody, and everything. Different cultures, races, religions, and species of animals that have been here for millions of years. I am somewhat annoyed with people who have the need to destroy things different than themselves.
What would you like to see more of on the site?
I’m pretty happy with Care2 and don’t really see it lacking anything. Now that is saying alot, because in general, I have very high standards and am usually impossible to please!
