Puppies vs Babies: Who Is Cuter?

They enter the world all smushy faced. They drool uncontrollably. They poop ad hoc on whatever or whomever is nearby. They make ridiculously darling cooing and grunting sounds. They have that unmistakable breath. Oh, the wonderment that is puppies and babies!

Everybody knows that the sight of a cuddly baby or a cute puppy makes minds melt and fuzzies warm, and now America can determine once and for all who is truly cuter in the online version of Puppies vs. Babies. Starting today, Animal Planet is holding a casting call for the cutest puppy and baby in America to compete in a head-to-head showdown.

Which Side Are You On?

As a dyed-in-the-wool animal lover, I am a bit biased relative to my preference – but we want to hear from you! Let’s face it, some babies enter the world looking like little old men, monkeys or squatty accountants –right? Bless his heart, but one of my nephews entered the world looking a bit like a baby Bonobo. I am not kidding.

Do You Have An Exceptionally Cute Pup or Baby? $5,0000 Can Be Yours!

How to Enter: Visit Puppies Vs Babies for all the information you need, but here’s a quick overview on how to enter!

Step 1: Find a Photo

Go find a totally adorable shot of your puppy or baby that is no more than 18 months old. Do you have a grown dog or child that used to be a puppy or baby? You’re in luck! You can also submit baby photos of your grown dog or child that you might have taken years ago! (You can read more about eligible photos in the rules.)

Step 2: Submit Your Photo

If you’re a proud parent or owner, submit your cute baby or cuddly puppy photo using the form provided along with some brief info about what makes them special.

Step 3: Vote, Vote Vote & Tell Your Friends to Vote!

Starting Saturday, Oct. 22, voting will begin to ultimately determine a top baby and puppy to compete in the Championship round. If your baby or puppy makes it that far, you’ll get $5,000! Easy as pie!

This isn't really a fair contest. I'm not even a dog person and the puppies win. Now, if it were puppies versus toddlers, then the humans might have a chance. The problem is (and I know people don't want to admit it) human babies aren't very cute. They're a bit funny-looking, actually. Relative to other animals, human babies are born premature. That's why humans are born so amazingly helpless, and yet you can watch footage of brand new baby horses or deers and such standing up and taking tentative steps. We have to be born premature, because we have great big brains, and if we were born with equal development as most mammals, we wouldn't be able to fit out of our mothers. But it does mean that our babies are kind of funny-looking at first. Of course, new parents are flooded with hormones that make them love and adore them. And we know what to expect, so relative to a human baby, your child will look adorable. But compared to most baby mammals, ours just don't get that cute until they are a bit older. Now, toddlers can be quite cute and have lost most of that funny-looking babyness of little humans.
