When any negative feeling or reaction to a situation arises, stop to notice it, just as you would with a positive feeling, and make a choice about what to do. The choices cover a wide range of responses. At any given moment you will need to experiment a bit to find the one that seems most suitable.
The following can be very effective:
Patient waiting. Notice your negative reaction and watch it for a moment. Be attentive to your feelings as they are, without judging or forcing them to change.
Talk out the problem. Any negative experience in the mind is part of yourself. Try talking to your fear or hostility. Ask to know what it means. Find out why it chose to show itself at this particular moment.
Ask the underlying energy to leave. When you really explore the shadow, you find that energy is stuck to a message. By listening to the message and then moving the energy, you can free yourself even of the most persistent negative reactions.
Summon help and assistance. Learning to trust in aspects of your higher self that you can’t see is important. Ask for help in removing unwanted negative energy.
Physical responses. Let your body do what it wants in order to release the grip of a negative experience, e.g. walking or going to the gym. Allow yourself to shake, tremble, thrash your limbs, tone, laugh, cry, and so on.
Breathing. It can be helpful to use some kind of controlled breathing to let go of unwanted negative energies.
Remain flexible and be aware that no single technique works all the time. The more patient you are with yourself, the better.
