Scottish Blessing
Traditional.
Last weekend, Cait spent time at a Celtic festival surrounded by bonny men in kilts playing bagpipes. She was moved to get in touch with her inner Celt, and found this lovely nature-centered blessing to inspire and cheer you.
Scottish Blessing
May the blessing of light be on you
Light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire,
So that stranger and friend may come and warm himself at it.
And may light shine out of the two eyes of you,
Like a candle set in the window of a house,
Bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm.
May the blessing of the rain be on you,
May it beat upon your Spirit
And wash it fair and clean,
And leave there a shining pool where the blue of Heaven shines,
And sometimes a star.
May the blessing of the earth be on you,
Soft under your feet as you pass along the roads,
Soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day;
And may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it.
May it rest so lightly over you
That your soul may be out from under it quickly;
Up and off and on its way to God.

add your comment »I am Scottish by birth and no matter what anyone says, one still has their roots that we hark back to.
There is nothing more beautiful than a Scottish Blessing to make one feel the stirrings of their birth country.
I live in Australia and claim citizenship for both countries, how lucky I am.!!!

I am a Scot who just last week had to bury his best friend and I know the power of nature to heal -it asks for nothing but respect - it showers us all with harmony and lights of constantly differing hue - in sensitivity it suits our mood entirely - it's as free as the fresh air symbolises - it makes Scotland the wonderful country it surely is and my prayer for John Vincent, my friend, is that he wil languish in the light of the great Spirit he so reflected onto many people! May you rest in peace dear friend.
