Ready, Set, Goal!

It’s good to be grateful about your life and where you are right now. After all, the present moment is all you really have. And it’s essential to enjoying whatever transformation process you are undertaking.

We often hear that life is not about the destination, but the journey. And it’s true that the journey is incredibly important and fulfilling — but if you don’t have a set goal you’re working towards, it can seem like you’re aimlessly wandering or going around in circles.

Setting an achievable, realistic goal regarding your self-improvement can help you to feel inspired. For one, you’ll be able to better keep track of how close you are getting to your endpoint and it’s thrilling to see your progress. And it’ll definitely help if you get stuck in a rut and feel less than motivated to press on. Setting a goal helps to keep you accountable — especially if you write it down or share it with others. A goal makes your intention to change real and it gives you purpose.

Making specific goals also makes your journey less intimidating. Instead of saying, “I want to be healthier” and then being lost at what that actually means, challenge yourself to complete an action that signifies that goal. For example, being healthier to you might mean being able to run a 5K in three months or choosing the most nutritious item on the menu whenever you go out to eat.

The road to change is long and difficult, but setting goals helps you to stay focused and remember why you even started.

@andrew h. : Thanks for that reference to Sri Paramahansa Yogananada - my favourite author. He has such positive a way to impart wisdom that always seems to encourage and allay fears...

Each day is brand new, full of possibilities and opportunities both internal and external. Daily goal should reflect on what's working, what's not, and necessary adjustment.

Total commitment to a daily dose, with patience, will make the journey easier and the end-game desired possible.

For setting and getting goals, you may want to check out a goal setting app called GoalsOnTrack, a very nicely built web app designed for tracking goals and todo lists, and supports time tracking too. It's clear, focused, easy to navigate.
