Silent Giving: A Simple Walking Prayer

Silent Giving: A Simple Walking Prayer

Adapted from Peace to All Beings, by Judy Carman (Lantern Books, 2003).

What a beautiful concept: to spread loving peace with every step. The Native American teacher, Oh Shinnah, says that city sidewalks contain many fragments of crystals, and that these crystals pick up the frame of mind, heart, and spirit with which we walk on them and then transmit them to others. If we keep this in mind, Simple Giving becomes an even more powerful practice.

Find out how to do this simple walking prayer.

As you pass people, animals, trees, or any beings, silently send out love from your heart. Be aware that the Great Spirit is continually pouring Unconditional Love through you to everyone you see and through everyone else as well. However, it’s up to us to take that vibratory energy and willingly project it out to others. Watch your thoughts, let judgments go, and just feel love, serenity, and joy radiating out to all who come near you.

It is easier to be in this giving vibratory state when you are silent. Once you begin to communicate verbally with others, it becomes more difficult. But the silent giving exercise helps us all to develop the ability so that we can use it when we are talking as well.

This is a beautiful concept and one we need to incorporate into our lives. Clear the negitivity and send loving thoughts to everyone and everything along our daily path. How fun, thanks for the reminder.

This is a wonderful and easy way to spread peace! I love to do this. You never know what effect there will be, but I am convinced there is definitely an effect! Thanks for bringing it here...

Mindful - i.e. fully attentive - reading (or hearing) of what others say is every bit as "spiritual" as any exercise or, indeed, any prayer. It is the one-on-one attention that matters. (My own old proverb. ;))

Thank you, Care2 and Judy Carman, for sharing this beautiful "advice". Just reading it creates an aura of peace!

I see my footprints as prints of light waiting to be picked up on the shoes of those who come after me and carried on their day.

Thank you for this it is a wonderful thing to do I will add it to my affirmations [done silently] each and every day.
To a comment further up where someone said "if you expect kindness to be returned by others" or words to that effect - I can only say -
Expect much of yourself and little of others and thus you will be spared much vexation. Chinese proverb.LOL
But really the way I look at life is you do a kindness or anything you do for anyone is done out of caring, compassion and wanting to help - not for any reward or pat on the back. PEACE. Just the way I see things. Love & Light Always Surround You All. Blessings J

A perfect example of the old saying "Sorrow shared is halved, happiness shared is doubled." If you keep the love being given to you by the Divine it will wither and die; if you share it, it will flourish.

I have been doing this - almost automatically - for the past 20 years or so (not out of some ideology or specific "teaching", but following my own instinct). I would say it is a happy way to live; it comes from a blissful heart and it generates bliss - or at least comfort - amidst sadness.

But anyone who thinks that kindness of the heart is necessarily "rewarded" by other people's kind treatment of the person who does this is bound to be sadly disappointed. It would be nice; but such an attitude is usually its own - and only - reward.

That's good enough for me.

Wonderful, and as we do this we will also being connected worldwide through the crystal energy and effect not just our area but many others...single flames becoming a bonfire. Blessings to all. May I request that extra prayers be sent to the Circus's who use animals for entertainment, for the Canadian gov't. re our seal hunt, to the Chinese gov't. re Moon Bear and animal treatment in Asia in general. Thank you all. Happy New Year
