Swine Flu Vaccine: What To Do?

posted by Dr. Frank Lipman Oct 11, 2009 5:00 pm

3. We don’t know if the vaccine is safe.

The FDA has authorized an expedited approval process for the swine flu vaccine, but we don’t know yet if it is safe. Even GlaxoSmithKline, one of the vaccine manufacturers has said, “The total population studied in clinical trials will be limited, due to the need to provide the vaccine to governments as quickly as possible. Additional studies will therefore be required and conducted after the vaccine is made available.”

In other words, the only thing that is safe, is to say that no one knows. Since it’s never been used before and they have not had time to conduct any sufficient human testing, by getting vaccinated you are being a human guinea pig.

4. Vaccine manufacturers have been insulated from liability by the government.

The Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sibelius has granted legal immunity not only to the makers of the two drugs being used to treat swine flu, Tamiflu and Relenza, but also to the swine flu vaccine makers, for damages due to their use against swine flu. By effectively manipulating the legal system, the Pharmaceutical Industry through their powerful lobbyists have acquired almost complete and total insulation from any liability for their vaccines and adjuvants, which are additives added to generate a stronger immune response. It is believed that it is these adjuvants which often cause the problems. The last time the government embarked on a major vaccine campaign against a new swine flu was in 1976. Thousands filed claims for side effects such as paralysis caused by the vaccine and a number of people died. I am sure that the researchers know more now than they did last time and no one can say for certain that bad things will happen again or that you will suffer dire consequences if you get vaccinated. But this time you have no legal recourse even though this vaccine involves new factors, which makes it therefore experimental and unpredictable.

By shielding the manufacturers from any responsibility for any harm caused, the pharmaceutical firms have no financial incentive to make the safest product. In fact, they have a negative incentive to test it for safety, because if they are aware of problems, then they could potentially be held liable for willful misconduct.

Instead I advise my patients to build up and strengthen their immune systems to prevent viral infections.

Thanks for the info. =)

To Victoria K ....

Didn't take that trip to the Wizard as you suggested. Didn't sound like a very nice wish for me, at all !!!

And your comment about my mis-spelling a word - just goes to show you don't know as much as you think you do huh ?

Your comment : " besides a grumbling, old man that likes to whine (although you misspelled this word in your post)" That word was NOT a mistake at all - I suggest you look up an ENGLISH dictionary and find that whinge (pronounced 'winj') is a word widely used and means something similar to 'whine' ... whinge means ' to complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner '. Couldn't resist putting you straight on that one.

As for the rest of it - to each his own - to vaccinate or not .... a personal decision.

Reply to Daisy -

Good for you Daisy. Someone using their brain power for a change on this subject. You raise some very valid points - particularly about the vaccination programmes for children etc. who, without those vaccinations, could now be crippled for life from polio, or in some way badly affected (or dead) from the diseases they no doubt could have/would have contracted, without the protection of vaccinations. Excellent point too - those saying "I wouldn't put that in my body" but go ahead and continue to smoke ... and I have to wonder how many of the negative fear mongering writers to this subject here, also use illegal drugs.

Again - well done ...... Annie B.

Daisy K.

Am personally getting tired of all the 'experts' on the H1N1 vaccine topic...especially those who say take vitamins, eat right and exercise and you'll not get anything worse than a bad cold.

Maybe that works for many and how lucky they are to have such an immune system...so don't get the shot, but at least stop demeaning those that have severe health problem and do all those things.

Damaged lungs (made worse by smokers), complete body Arthritis, and many issues from childhood diseases...when left with such a system, it doesn't take much to become very ill, very quickly...

I know of several people that can't take it because of their illness and my own Dr. will not give it to them. That is taking a responsible position and I fully understand that. However, I am not one of them and need to further protect myself.

If we didn't take a chance of many vaccines , we would be dying from many disease that have been eradicated.

I have to laugh at those people that say 'not putting that in my body' and are smokers ! What at joke.

When people don't trust their Dr. and won't research information relating to their own body and health, yet will accept information printed off the internet and handed out by one of your everyday 'protesters' standing on a street corner, it certainly makes one wonder...I expect that young person had many shots that his Mother was sure he got which has enabled him to be healthy enough to stand out in the wind, rain and cold and do it.

I have no intentions of getting the vaccination, mercury is not safe. Its not even worth it, the dozens of people I know who already had the swine flu are done and over it. Just drink alot of water and keep the fever down and you are good to go. There is always a chance of complications with anything you get, its no different. Scaring people to get vaccinated, is really messed up.

Go to the bottom of the article/story page and there should be a tick for "track comments" - un-check the box. If you've already done this then I don't know - maybe go to your profile and see if there's a switch there?

How do you get these comments to stop coming to your email?!?!?!

Victoria K.

To Anne Byam-

I am so glad you conceded. After all, you were the one that started the unpleasantness in these comments. Re-read your comments from the beginning to refresh your memory. Kevin E. said it best in his comment to you: Anne - just because a notion seems ridiculous to you does not mean that it cannot be at the same time true.

You made assumptions about me and your tone was rude. I simply sent you a link to show you that there are others that have legitimate problems related to the flu shot, besides a grumbling, old man that likes to whine (although you misspelled this word in your post) about everything.

I realize that some people just like to bloviate to make themselves feel important, however, personally attacking me with your snide remarks, without even knowing anything about me, is what's really sad here.

I wish you - a trip to the Wizard....Victoria.

Anne Byam

To Victoria K ….

I can see now you have a few problems.
Comprehension being one of them. That’s sad.

I will not respond to anything further, as these communications have now become highly unpleasant.

You can have all the “last words” you like.

I wish you - health ……. Anne.
