The Dog Whisperer’s House Rules (video)

This poor pup has a problem with his behavior at meal time; he gets way too overexcited.

Cesar, the Dog Whisperer, comes in to save the day, helping the family see what the problem is and how to solve it by calming the dog down.

See how he does it, and how it can make your dog a better eater and a better member of your family.

I think what is required is training the people who are going to be "training" the animal. I've never trained a dog so I can't speak from experience but if I got a young pup, I'd go to obedience classes more me ME than the pup.
There is also Jackson Galaxy, the guy who helps with "My Cat from Hell" on the Animal Planet. He's a real cat whisperer.
I've mostly had cats and I don't try to train them - I'm just the calm, confident "Alpha cat" and I've really not ever had a problem. I DID have to retrain one cat 3 times during her life to use her litter box. I just knew she had to go about every 4 hrs and I lived 6 blocks from work so I'd leave every 4 hours for a few minutes and put her in her box and praise her when she'd go. It took about 2 weeks of this. I also set my alarm at nite. She was well worth it!
