The Reliable Compass of Spirit
Whenever we feel lost or out of place, we can turn to Spirit to guide us and orient us on our map.
Spirit is a force like the magnetic pull of the north pole. Spirit is true north, the Source of all power and wisdom, and it will never mislead you. The Divine is always present, even when you lose track of where it is. You’re a spiritual being learning through a human form, and therefore you’re already magnetic to Spirit. Somewhere inside you, you have a natural pull to Spirit that will always guide you correctly. All you need to do is slow down and pull out your compass. As you remain still, Spirit speaks to you through intuition, orienting you, then pointing you to the next right action or soul lesson. It’s your personal GPS!
Consult it…and then, as you breathe a sigh of relief, you’ll recognize that you’re not alone and lost in the woods. You’ll see that you’re on the enchanted Map and have the power to influence your experience — to rescue yourself from being mired in the Sticky Swamp, or feeling guilty and overwhelmed in Shouldville.
You’ll also discover that the act of taking out your compass has caused you to summon the enchanted creatures who will serve as your mentors, allies, and challengers. These personified aspects of your psyche will always tell you what you need to know, which may be very different from what you want to hear!
If you don’t listen to their wisdom, however, and you ignore their presence, you’ll forget all about your compass and misplace it. You’ll find yourself reacking your brain to figure out what went wrong and how to avoid suffering and get what you want out of life. Then your adventure will feel more like a nightmare, and you’ll start to believe you’re powerless when, in fact, you have enormous potential for directing your course.
Here’s an example: Imagine that your mother-in-law calls you up at the beginning of your day and lays a guilt trip on you. She’s always so negative, and normally you can handle it, but your husband has just lost his job and you might have to find one, your house might have to be sold, and your two kids are at college and constantly calling to ask for more money. You’re a spiritual person, right? You know all the metaphysical answers and affirmations, but you can’t remember anything at that moment, and your reaction throws you over a metaphorical cliff.
Take out your compass and align with true north, with Spirit, and you’ll see where you are. Maybe you feel you’re in Shouldville, or in that harrowing landscape known as the Storm Fields. Maybe it’s as if you’re in the mud somewhere in the jungle, the air humid and sticky and you’re being pelted with poop thrown at you by a whole lot of monkeys hiding in the trees who scream at you as you try to duck the oncoming manure. Awful as this “place” may seem, you’re not stuck here. Those monkeys are yours, and you can get them to stop annoying you…and when you do so, you’ll find that the landscape magically shifts into a more peaceful one.
