The Whale That Changed the World’s View of Marine Mammals

Orcas have become iconic animals on the West Coast and people love them, but it wasn’t always that way. The CBC’s Chris Brown looks at the Canadians and the whale who changed the world’s view of marine mammals. Photo Credit: Ashley Coates via Flickr.

I found this video both good and depressing. Poor Moby Doll/ Dick, TYFS.

I found this video depressing and sad. The film footage of the whales being killed was horrible. I feel sorry for all the Orcas who have been subjected to "performing" in captivity. Poor Moby Doll, who turned out to be Moby Dick. I'm sure his immune system was compromised by his terrible wound. This video simply reveals our shame and shows us for what we really are...savages.

I found this film both touching and depressing; much of it was horrendous to watch, but I'm glad I did, I didn't know about Moby Doll despite having lived through the transition of Orcas from scary predators to much loved marine mammal.
