Third Chakra Healing

Adapted from The Triple Goddess Tarot, by Isha Lerner (Inner Traditions, 2002).

Governed by fire, the third chakra is action oriented. We must have a healthy third chakra if we are to complete the tasks that have been laid before us. It is located above the navel and corresponds to the solar plexus in the physical body. The third chakra opens the channels of power and acts like a radiant sun, storing power and energy for future use.

This is a life-giving area and is charged with light; it has the potential to bring forward consciousness and self-awareness.

How healthy is your third chakra?

When this chakra is in a negative or depleted state, the individual wrestles with issues of failure, rejection, loss of face, and inadequacy. If we are not able to stand tall in our worth and truth, then this chakra will carry a sinking or aching feeling. It a person lies or fails to live with integrity, this chakra will be weak and the individual will not have a shining disposition. He or she will remain hidden, and this false persona will eventually cause much suffering.

In a healed and healthy state, this area of the body is electric, vital, and inspired. Its radiant light gives rise to true determination and goodwill. By directing the full force of our intention toward our dreams and goals and moving creatively through life, we leave the limiting aspects of our childhood behind. We are transformed into sacred and peaceful warriors capable of balancing humility with authority, and personal will with divine will.

I have found the books by Sonia Choquette, including specifically "True Balance" to have some great analysis on chakra balancing and harmonizing. True Balance has a chapter on each, and is a very straightforward book to read.
