Voting is an Act of Consciousness

What do people carry in with them when they close the curtain of the voting booth? They carry their political convictions, whether they align with the right or the left. They carry their sense of civic duty. They carry their emotions. But deeper down, aren’t they also carrying their whole lives?
If living in the moment means anything, it means that each moment of existence is a point that contains everything. In a mysterious way, to act is to express the universe, and like the still point of the revolving world, each act is both in time and outside it.
Spiritual people aspire to be in both places, timebound and timeless. In India this is sometimes expressed as “the lamp at the door”–your soul is poised, as if on a threshold between the everyday events that occur in time and the background of the unchanging, infinite absolute.
The reason this is important is that if you can live from the level of your soul, you are doing something very special. It doesn’t really matter what actions you take. The important thing is how much consciousness you add to the whole of human existence, for that is how eternity expresses itself, like a lamp shining in through the window of eternity.
At this moment you are expressing the entire universe through your consciousness. The cosmic plan, whether we call it divine or not, doesn’t need you or me to reach its ultimate fulfillment. Yet the parts you and I play are unique. No one can duplicate them; we make our own cosmic history every second.

add your comment »Every act is an act of conciousness- so I see where voting may fit in for some...Yet for those whom are beyond the political specturm of 'primary colors' & popular slogans soon to go awry...I prefer to be the CHANGE I want to see. This does not always connotate voting or participation in the agendas of power to gain control & more of it over people whom should be wise & responsible enought to start maintaining control over their selves. Teachers only become more abundant in their teachings by the ready particpant to teach...

I vote for Deborah!
Barack Obama is looking for the support and ideas of the American people. Now people have the chance to speak out against the crime, corruption and injustice of the Bush regieme and really get something done to clean up the mess.

Gheeze! We get to vote for the TWO parties who have destroyed our way of life for their own vested interests and profit. Time for CHANGE.
Stand up and take our Government back. Join or start a Libertarian Party and be ProActive in your State Government for starters. Gather togethers those of like minds re issues you feel passionate about and start holding your Legislators accountable for CHANGE. We don't need more laws that our State Probate, Civil, Juvenile courts violate at will because they have no monitoring, checks and balances to ensure every citizen their rights and due process of laws. Stand up for smaller state governments with state job cuts starting at the top where Agency Management are highly paid with benefits/perks befitting royalty yet have no responsibility or accountability as does private industry management. State Governments are so LARGE it requires HUGE amounts of tax payer dollars both on the State and Federal Levels to maintain itself. State Governments have gotten into the BUSINESS of providing services that private industry can do more efficiently, economically, and with better outcomes/results. Their Monitoring Agencies can't and don't regulate their own State Agencies/facilities because of nepotism, favoritism and political influence. State Contracts and their Monitoring Agencies are used to CONTROL the infrastructure for the State's vested interests of maintenance, waste, growth and profiteering off the vulnerable and average taxpayer.

If we are not repressed we get to vote what we freely feel in our hearts. My Grandmother was not allowed to vote the way she wanted to vote. My grandfather had used the excuse of her being from a different country to vote for her. He always voted what he believed in but my grandmother was not allowed to vote hers. He even wanted the whole family to vote the way he wanted us to vote. Now that he has passed we are now free to vote for whom we believe to represent ourselves on the issues. My grandmother does not vote. Years of my grandfather's control had taken its toll on her. She still does things the way he wants her to do them eventhough he is gone. I wonder how many years it would take her to start doing things the way she wants to do them?
