A woman living in Ohio has been held for attempting to hire a hit man to kill a person who wears fur. She was caught after posting a message on FaceBook saying she would pay $830 to $850 for the fatal service. She also said she wanted to be there for the event, so she could pass out papers afterwards.
An FBI agent posing as a possible hit man contacted her via email and she replied, “You need to bring a gun that has a silencer on it and that can be easily concealed in your pants pocket or coat. … If you do not want to risk the possibility of getting caught with a gun before the job, bring a sharp knife that is (at least) 4 inches long…” (Source: The Star)
She also wanted to be arrested to drawn public attention to her beliefs that animals on factory farms and laboratories are like people held in Nazi camps and could be liberated.
Some news accounts have labeled the accused woman as an animal rights activist, but doing so is a smear of the real animal rights community who are not for violence of any kind towards people. She appears to have no affiliation with a legitimate pro-animal organization.
A co-founder of the Cleveland Animal Rights Alliance said she had never heard of the accused woman, “I’m appalled and horrified that somebody would think that committing violence is going to further a cause that is all about non-violence. Humans are animals too, and we want everyone to live in a peaceful environment, not just non-human animals.” (Source: MSNBC)
It seems seems some media outlets don’t understand what an animal rights activist is, because it would be outright misinformation to suggest deliberate violence against people is a acceptable strategy of that community.
Plotting homicide and using FaceBook to do it in public, suggest mental illness much for than a reasoned, responsible approach to helping animals.

+ add your ownOh my lands. This woman is not in her right mind.
She is not an animal rights activist - they do NOT recommend MURDER!!!
Look its simple. FANATICS of any kind are not needed. Its one thing to toss a little flour but how can someone even think its OK to kill someone to stop killing of animals. For real?? Isn't that being just a little hypocritical?
Let's not forget that the fur purchasers and wearers are contributing to the deaths of millions of animals a year. They are not exactly the innocent party here. The animal is the innocent one.
Btw; the animal rights community are not for violence of any sort towards human mammals OR non human animals.
What an odd story. This woman needs help in any case
I too understand the frustration, behind knowing there are real fur wearers out there. These people don't seem to care in the least, about what animals are enduring at the cruel hands of cold hearted murderers of animals. There are countless areas where this is true, but we can't and don't go around putting a hit out on people who use and abuse. Then we become like them-down to their level. Education is one key-knowledge and understanding of the truth behind closed doors, needs to be shouted out form the roof tops everywhere! The whistle blowers cannot ever be silenced--- cameras must go where they are needed for documentation. Animal rights activists must continue to grow in numbers, there are caring people who continue to fight fro those who can't for themselves. I pray everyday for animal rights to finally come into being LAW!!!! It just may happen one day, sooner than we think (I hope before I leave this world!)
should've been more discreet about it =P haha
Fur is gross. Period, but maybe she could have just done as PETA does and splash a little red paint lol.. Sorry the image conjured up is priceless... Okay, anyway.. The woman was waaay out of line, sets a bad example for animal activists, and gives us a bad name.. We can do better than that! Compassion towards everyone and thing is the goal.
The slur against the mentally ill is entirely unnecessary. I'm a mentally ill animal rights activist, and I don't go around trying to hire hitmen. (Openly plotting crimes on facebook is quite common, too - there's normally a story like this in the news every few weeks where I live. Well, it saves the police work :) So I hope they continue being so foolish!)
We also can't say she's not an animal rights activist just because we (rightly) think her methods are completely over the top. Spending money to do an action which you think will help the animals, and being willing to personally sacrifice for it? Sounds like animal rights activism to me. But most of us just donate to animal sanctuaries and avoid animal products, that's all.
omg i cant believe someone would go to such lengths this woman needs to be clinically examined for mental disorders
Now, James, you're digressing again. I do NOT address the practices or conditions of factory-farms or CAFO's when I state that castration of newborns or the very young livestock is more stressful (mentally) than physically, and I've seen it done dozens, upon DOZENS of times. I've had my male horses gelded, so there again, stood right there and seen it done. The "mental stress" I referred to was hardly a killer. The calf gets up within a minute (the entire procedure lasts about 5 minutes) and runs back to Momma, where he starts nursing immediately if Momma stands still long enough. He doesn't "die". The stress is from being removed (separated) from Momma and put down on his side. Cows are prey animals, and like horses, they don't like being "laid down"........it scares them by pure instinct. When "down", they could be eaten by a predator. Only time you see one lay down on it's own is if Momma or herdmates are standing nearby, on guard. James, just an FYI, females in those 3rd world countries are sometimes treated worse than livestock. They are sexually mutilated in adolescence, not when newborn. Let's not digress there, okay?
