Adapted from The Chakras in Shamanic Practice, by Susan J. Wright (Inner Traditions, 2007).

For millennia, eight colors have been thought to correspond to energy centers in the body. Wearing or surrounding yourself with these colors leads to balance and inner healing. For example, if you want to open your heart, there is a color that corresponds to the heart that will help. If you need to speak your truth to someone, you can wear a throat-chakra-colored scarf for encouragement. Find out about the chakra colors and what they do.

Red - First chakra, base of the spine. Groundedness, trust, belonging, lessens feelings of mistrust.

Orange - Second chakra, belly just below the navel. Sensuality, emotion, creativity, lessens feelings of inferiority.

Yellow - Third chakra, solar plexus. Will, identity, commitment, lessens feelings of confusion.

Green - Fourth chakra, heart. Compassion, forgiveness, intimacy, lessens feelings of isolation.

Blue - Fifth chakra, throat. Expression, communication, power to manifest, generativity, lessens feelings of stagnation.

Indigo - Sixth chakra, third eye, between the eyes. Clear sight, intuition, integrity, lessens feelings of despair.

Violet - Seventh chakra, crown, top of the head. Spiritual connection, mastery, lessens feelings of distraction.

White - Eighth chakra, just above the head. Radiance, expansion, lessens feelings of limiting attachment.

He suggests that there are in fact several hundred chakras but that these are the most important .He also claims that you are safe focusing on each chakra and trying to see it in its right color ,as, if you are not sufficiently spiritually advanced you will only get the energy charge that comes with the chakra visualisations you are ready

I've been able to see aura colors since I was a child. The Chakra colors are interesting, but I believe we must also pay attention to how we feel. For myself, certain colors enhance my moods and I can see them around people, animals and buildings. While it may seem wierd to some people, being able to sense or see colors has helped me through my entire life.

What i know is different :
1st-yellow,2nd-white,3rd-red, 4th-green,5th-blue,6th-snow white,7th-luminous,no 8th in major chakras. Source- Yoga Alliance teacher training.

But don't get caught up with the colours. Colours don't give you special power. It is
your own mind that determines how you feel. The power comes from your own mind and not an outside force.

It is a mistake to believe wearing colours corresponding to a chakra will magically open up this chakra.
Opening can be done with meditation assisted by the yoga asanas specific to the chakra. Also, energy work such as reiki is very helpful. Be careful though that the person performing the energy work on you must himself or herself be balanced.

Wearing of these colours can assist by helping bring the mind to meditation on the particular chakra.

The feeling evoked by a colour represents the energy stored in this chakra. So the colours will vary a bit from person to person. We store energy in our chakras. When we are not balanced, we have too much or too little of a particular type of energy.

1st chakra- too much=arrogance, too little=insecirity
2nd chakra- too much=sexual indulgence, too little= too emotional
3rd chakra - too much=jealousy, power issues, overly assertive, too little= depression, insecurity, self pity
4th - 2much=demanding, moody, 2little=paranoia, love/attention seeking
5th - 2much=self-righteous, talkative, 2 little=timid, unreliable
6th - 2much=dogmatic, egomaniacal, 2little=sensitive2criticism

Thanks for reminding about colors to wear.
I have not been paying attention to what I am wearing so much in a sense of energy.

I would just like to learn about all of this. I find it extremely interesting. I seem to soak up more by verbal explanation. Can someone tell me how to go about this.

MA Cameron

Doesn't align with mine at all. The second is in the groin area (orange) while the third (solar plexus) yellow is correct. It is said that is actually where our soul or essence lives. I have the Crown chakra as union with Universal Being. Male chakras spin opposite of female chakras. Ancient writings tell us of 88,000 chakras. Doreen Virtue uses ear chakras. The most comprehensive book I have read is "The Chakra Handbook" by Sharamon and Baginski. I've been a Reiki Master/Teacher (Usui and Kundalini) for a long time now.

I've been following Reiki for several yrs. now
& receive Reiki from my Massage therapist on a regular basis. I also do Reiki Treatments to my customers & sometimes they don't even know
that i've given a Reiki Treatment to them & when they leave my chair after a Hair Cut, they always say "Thanks" Karen,You made me feel
so Great & Relaxed & my Headache is gone & they
lost all their Stress Feelings too. I Love
Reiki & knowing about the Chakra colors too.

Thank you...this information melds with mine. And, I am reminded how special each of us as human beings are! Barbara Crowder
