Your Chakra Colors and What They Do

Adapted from The Chakras in Shamanic Practice, by Susan J. Wright (Inner Traditions, 2007).
For millennia, eight colors have been thought to correspond to energy centers in the body. Wearing or surrounding yourself with these colors leads to balance and inner healing. For example, if you want to open your heart, there is a color that corresponds to the heart that will help. If you need to speak your truth to someone, you can wear a throat-chakra-colored scarf for encouragement. Find out about the chakra colors and what they do.
Red - First chakra, base of the spine. Groundedness, trust, belonging, lessens feelings of mistrust.
Orange - Second chakra, belly just below the navel. Sensuality, emotion, creativity, lessens feelings of inferiority.
Yellow - Third chakra, solar plexus. Will, identity, commitment, lessens feelings of confusion.
Green - Fourth chakra, heart. Compassion, forgiveness, intimacy, lessens feelings of isolation.
Blue - Fifth chakra, throat. Expression, communication, power to manifest, generativity, lessens feelings of stagnation.
Indigo - Sixth chakra, third eye, between the eyes. Clear sight, intuition, integrity, lessens feelings of despair.
Violet - Seventh chakra, crown, top of the head. Spiritual connection, mastery, lessens feelings of distraction.
White - Eighth chakra, just above the head. Radiance, expansion, lessens feelings of limiting attachment.

add your comment »I come from a hawaiian lineage that is open to many schools of thought. You must take into account the other persons model of their world. If colours work for them them you as the practitioner can adopt this philosophy in the moment. I believe it's your goal to be a conduit for that energy to heal them. That's why they are going to you. You have a stronger and more congruent belief in their healing. Be flexible. I love Reiki. There is a lineage linked to the energy we call Higher Consciousness. Utilize what is already in the universe. Be well.

I am a Reiki practitioner and a Reconnective Healer(R). If Universal Life Energy is what Reiki transmits, then why should the healer be "balanced"? Are you saying that Universal Life Energy is somehow tainted by the emotions of the healer? Not such a good energy, then, is it? Intention and focus are two important keys to powerful Reiki treatments. Also, how can Universal Life Energy be blocked by metallic objects, as some Reiki practitioners believe, if it can pass through stars and planets and anything else, which are made of rock, metal and many other things?
Reconnective Healers(R) recognize this and never insist or even suggest that a client remove their belt, watch, jewelry or anything else containing metal, unless it potentially interferes with the comfort level of the client; not because it blocks the "energy" in any way.

Hi Margie W.
You do not need to wear all the colours at the same time. But try wearing, or using, one at a time and see how the colour influences or affects you.
Example: I never liked the colour purple. One day I decided to have my car sprayed in deep metallic aubergine (dark purple). I was just being daring. But you know what, I never felt saver in any other car. The colour gave me such confidence and inner calm, that I applied the colour purple in my home ranging from light lavender to deep purple. I even wear fuchsia now, a colour I used to abhor before.
Check your aura, that might give you an indication as to what colour is good for you. Or have a Colour Analysis done. That usually gives you a good indication of what colours are 'right' for you.
Wearing multiple colours ~ if you are less than 5'3" wear only one primary colour with one accent. If you are 5'6" you can wear two colours in proportion with one accent colour. (accent colours are usually accessories, such as a scarf, belt, handbag, etc.).
The more colours you wear at the same time, the more confused you become, and you shorten your height.
Namaste

My "Chakra" or Polarity is upside down, opposite of normal because of a trauma experienced during my birth into this world. How can I wear all of these colors in their perspective places at one time and not look like a clown or something? How does one carry a white color above their head? What does it mean by lessening limited attachment? Does this help me obtain the attachment of another that I desire?

The rainbow theory about chakras is often taught and was introduced by Christopher Hills, a spiritual philosopher and researcher who wrote "Nuclear evolution, which was published in the early 1970's. Hill suggest that each chakra corresponds to one of the seven colors of the spectrum, starting with red for the root, which is a completely modern concept comparable to Carl Jung. Sorry folks, your chakras do not match the colors of the rainbow, but they do match the elements: see www.vedicworld.org Ayurvedic GemTherapy Course

There is no blanket rule. Try different colours and check out moods. Several factors are at play. Slowly, over time, you will get to know which suits you the best. Some colours can be tiring and some colours can be uplifting. It depends on the individual. Some need red and some need white and some others need purple! Well worth the effort. There are new realisations all the time!

He suggests that there are in fact several hundred chakras but that these are the most important .He also claims that you are safe focusing on each chakra and trying to see it in its right color ,as, if you are not sufficiently spiritually advanced you will only get the energy charge that comes with the chakra visualisations you are ready

I've been able to see aura colors since I was a child. The Chakra colors are interesting, but I believe we must also pay attention to how we feel. For myself, certain colors enhance my moods and I can see them around people, animals and buildings. While it may seem wierd to some people, being able to sense or see colors has helped me through my entire life.

What i know is different :
1st-yellow,2nd-white,3rd-red, 4th-green,5th-blue,6th-snow white,7th-luminous,no 8th in major chakras. Source- Yoga Alliance teacher training.
But don't get caught up with the colours. Colours don't give you special power. It is
your own mind that determines how you feel. The power comes from your own mind and not an outside force.
It is a mistake to believe wearing colours corresponding to a chakra will magically open up this chakra.
Opening can be done with meditation assisted by the yoga asanas specific to the chakra. Also, energy work such as reiki is very helpful. Be careful though that the person performing the energy work on you must himself or herself be balanced.
Wearing of these colours can assist by helping bring the mind to meditation on the particular chakra.
The feeling evoked by a colour represents the energy stored in this chakra. So the colours will vary a bit from person to person. We store energy in our chakras. When we are not balanced, we have too much or too little of a particular type of energy.
1st chakra- too much=arrogance, too little=insecirity
2nd chakra- too much=sexual indulgence, too little= too emotional
3rd chakra - too much=jealousy, power issues, overly assertive, too little= depression, insecurity, self pity
4th - 2much=demanding, moody, 2little=paranoia, love/attention seeking
5th - 2much=self-righteous, talkative, 2 little=timid, unreliable
6th - 2much=dogmatic, egomaniacal, 2little=sensitive2criticism
