Animal shelters across America are becoming more and more over crowded. Sharon founded Legacy Boxer Rescue five years ago, and since then has been able to help hundreds of dogs that would have died alone and friendless. She is the president of Legacy Boxer Rescue, a group that consists of more than 200 close volunteers. The rescue group concentrates on the Boxer dog breed because of the dog's pure love and their intelligence. Every week, there are at least forty Boxers waiting in Dallas area shelters with little time before they are euthanized. Legacy Boxer Rescue rescues and adopts out between 200 and 300 Boxers each year and marked their 1,000th adoption in 2008. The dogs are placed in foster homes, where they receive whatever medical care and behavioral training they need and then eventually are adopted into the forever homes they so deserve. All the volunteers give their heart and soul for this rescue, but Sharon Sleighter gives her life to a cause that only pays in dog kisses and happy homes. Despite having a full-time job and a family of her own, she dedicates countless hours to Legacy Boxer Rescue and the dogs. From transporting, fostering, and vaccinating, to paperwork, decision-making, and delivering supplies, Sharon never stops! She's always there when anyone needs help, and she cares about every single dog in the program.

Sharon is a devoted volunteer worker, who has dedicated her life in saving the lives of boxers from being put to death in kill animal shelters. Crocket and Wyatt came to Legacy after living in their owner's car. He'd lost his job and couldn't take care of them anymore. They were 10 and 12. Most places would have given up on them, but LBR took them in and gave them loving homes until they peacefully passed on. How can you not support a group like that??

I am snuggled in bed right now with two snoring boxers. One was dumped off at the shelter with her three puppies. She was heart worm positive. The other was dumped off with very little fur, and infested with tape worm. Tonight they are healthy and happy as they deserve to be, and without Sharon, they would have died alone at the shelter. There are not enough people in the world who are willing to sacrifice so much to save the lives of those who cannot save themselves. These babies have changed my life - And I am so tickled to support the LBR cause and cast my vote for Sharon. Thank you Sharon for all that you do, truly - You deserve so much more than this honor. Animal shelters across America are becoming more and more over crowded. Sharon founded Legacy Boxer Rescue five years ago, and since then has been able to help hundreds of dogs that would have died alone and friendless. She is the president of Legacy Boxer Rescue, a group that consists of more than 200 close volunteers. The rescue group concentrates on the Boxer dog breed because of the dog's pure love and their intelligence. Every week, there are at least forty Boxers waiting in Dallas area shelters with little time before they are euthanized. Legacy Boxer Rescue rescues and adopts out between 200 and 300 Boxers each year and marked their 1,000th adoption in 2008. The dogs are placed in foster homes, where they receive whatever medical care and behavioral training they need and then eventually are adopted into the forever homes they so deserve. All the volunteers give their heart and soul for this rescue, but Sharon Sleighter gives her life to a cause that only pays in dog kisses and happy homes. Despite having a full-time job and a family of her own, she dedicates countless hours to Legacy Boxer Rescue and the dogs. From transporting, fostering, and vaccinating, to paperwork, decision-making, and delivering supplies, Sharon never stops! She's always there when anyone needs help, and she cares about every single dog in the program.

I am a volunteer with a Second Chance Boxer Rescue in New York. I have had the opportunity to work with Legacy Boxer Rescue even though we are so far away from each other. LBR arranged a huge road trip (Legacy Express) where volunteers drove cross country to get the dogs into other rescues as they did not have the space needed to help all the dogs that needed them. The dedication of Sharon and all the LBR volunteers is simply unbelievable. Driving from Texas to New York and back to help the dogs that so desperately need them is definitely going above and beyond. I was the proud foster family to 2 of the dogs they brought to New York, Boss and Sasha are in wonderful, loving homes thanks to Sharon and LBR.

A few months ago a creature came into my yard. The neighbors that were out said what is that thing? Well, after I coaxed it to come to me it was an extremely skinny boxer with mange covering it's entire body. I fed and watered it and knew I couldn't keep it. I got on the internet and plugged in Boxer rescue, Dallas, Tx. The Legacy Boxer rescue came up. I got a phone no. and called and left my name and number. Within minutes the call was returned and they took in this dog. They even followed up on how the dog was doing after Vet treatment, nourishment and love within the foster parent's home. Even though I do not personally know Sharon I know how her rescue organization works. They deserve this money because they are making a difference for boxers that would otherwise die or be euthanized. Thank you again Legacy Boxer Rescue. Sheryl Russi

Sharon is the founder of the Legacy Boxer Rescue. To date LBR has rescued over 1,400 boxers from area shelters. Some of the boxers that we've rescued have required major surgery or have been pregnant females (they currently have ten healthy puppies from two different mothers). They've also rescued countless puppies surrendered by back yard breeders because they have severe mange and the breeders weren't able to sell them.

Sharon Sleighter must not sleep. She is the most tireless volunteer I have ever known. Her committment to Legacy Boxer Rescue goes far beyound the line of duty. She is never more than a phone call away from the next rescue! I can't count the times I have called her to help with not only my foster but to help save the lives of many other dogs, whether they are strays along the side of the road or Boxers at the shelter, Sharon is ALWAYS there!

I think it is amzing what she is doing not only for Boxers, but for animals in general! We have two boxers at home and they really are amazing family pets. My youngest is 5 (today as a matter of fact!) and she loves to play dress-up with both of them and they are SUPER amazing with her! I LOVE BOXERS! Keep up the good work Sharon!

Sharon has a great love of these dogs, and a passion for rescuing every one she can. Not only does Sharon strive to rescue every Boxer possible, she is also insistent upon placing each dog in a kind and loving home. In spite of working a full-time job, Sharon happily gives up time with her family as well as sleep at night so that she can nurture a Boxer in crisis. Its more than personal to her. We got our dog, Ramona, from Sharon's orgnaization, Legacy Boxer Rescue. Throughout the process, Sharon and her team were wonderfully helpful. Since the adoption, Sharon and her team have kept up with us and Ramona, and we love having that continuous connection. She's running a fabulous organization that helps connect families with their most perfect animal companions. What a great gift for the people and the animals. :)
