For Linda, and other caring animal control officers around the country, to do what she does day in and day out is truly a testimony to her humanity. If people would simply spay and/or neuter their pets we could stop the senseless cycle of unwanted litters and the subsequent euthanasia of millions of dogs and cats. It's really a national shame. Thank you Linda for doing the tough job that shouldn't have to be done.

It is very obvious that Linda goes the extra mile to insure the best possible outcome for the animals in the course of her duties. She is, without a doubt, very deserving of this recognition.

Linda is without a doubt an amazingly compassionate, hardworking woman. Her love of the animals is never ending. She makes the hard decisions for the betterment of the others in her care. Often Linda's care is the first time many animals have known a kind word, a soft hand and full belly in their lives. There is no way I could do Linda's job, but am so appreciative that she does and does it so well. Linda deserves a halo but our earth bound applause will have to do for now.

Linda gives that one-in-a-million chance to those animals who are otherwise cast aside. Even those considered unadoptable ultimately blossom and find homes because of her. The joy I see on peoples' faces and in their hearts when they share stories of the animals they adopted are a tribute to that one chance given to their pets by Linda.

There are so many dogs and cats who wind up homeless in shelters through absolutely no fault of their own. It's heartening to know there's someone like Linda out there who works so hard on their behalf to help keep them alive and sheltered and find forever homes.

Rarely do people who help animals win these kinds of things, and are hardly ever recognized. Animals need our voices. Hooray for Linda!

Although I think all the heroes are deserving of this - and bigger - awards, I chose Linda because I think it takes a lot of courage to go beyond what's in your job description. I think animals need a voice and all the help they can get, and it touched me how Linda tries to do all she can to avoid having to euthanize the animals under her care. Her initiative, starting this on her own, makes me think she and her charity deserve all the help they can get. I wish that this contest would award something to all contestants, though!
