I think if you follow all the links you will find it MAY have caused these big lake level drops. I lived in this area for 54 years (across from Detroit). It's important to investigate whether it's the true cause.
Secondly, just how are they going to 'fix' it? Fill in the dredged areas? Then the shipping can't occur. That's why they dredged in the first place so these huge ships can roll through the shallow areas of the Detroit and St. Clair rivers. Big, big issue.
