Just awful! :( Thanks Cher!

And...314 rabbits suffer with untreated infections

Federal reports obtained through the Freedom of Information Act reveal rhesus monkeys and rabbits suffering severely painful conditions without anesthesia inside the laboratories of the University of California, San Francisco.

According to a recently obtained federal report three rhesus monkeys lost over 15% of their body weight (similar to a 150 lb human losing 23 lbs through illness) during neurological experimentation at UCSF. One of the primates required euthanasia. Other government records reveal that primates are denied access to water for extended periods of time.

314 rabbits were purposely given injections of S. Aureus or Streptococci bacteria, leading to either endocarditis or bacteremia, and were then denied veterinary treatment.

“This kind of barbarity should be illegal,” said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T., Executive Director, SAEN. “If private citizens treated animals this way they would be immediately prosecuted.”

UCSF was also the subject of a recent federal complaint by SAEN, in what the watchdog group termed, the ‘worst ever’ case of animal cruelty. The incident surrounded a primate named Amadeus, who was allowed to suffer for days with self-destructive behavior, despite repeated requests for euthanasia by UCSF vet staff. It is believed that Amadeus was used in the same neurological project which caused starvation.

I have to agree with Joycey on this one. I really can't believe that this is allowed to continue. The suffering that these poor babies are going through and for what???? I don't understand at all. Just have to hope that there is a special place in hell for these horrible people to pay for their crimes against the voiceless.

Instead of using animals, why aren't they now doing stem cell research to help cure diseases?? This is just soooooo wrong and heinous.
