Multi-billion dollar timber and biotechnology corporations are developing genetically engineered (GE) trees for future production of paper and agrofuels (unsustainably produced biofuels). Hundreds of outdoor test plots of GE trees have been established

GE trees are like GM trees only they listen in to your phone and internet conversations and report them to the CIA and MI5 etc, when they have been chopped down and turned into telegraph poles to support your phone line cable! Other than that they glow under ultra violet light and emit strange noises a bit like politicians! I expect they also have something to do with Japan as they have research written all the way through their trunks like a stick of Blackpool rock! I did not cite any organisation when I signed the petition, I must have just hit the sign button harder!

To be serious the local field trials of GM oil seed rape an aptly named source of biofuel and cooking oil had to have atwo metre corridor to prevent the cross fertiliisation of non GM oilseed rape. As the stuff in it's non GM form is highly toxic and can be smelt from several hundred metres away with the vehicle windows shut and the pollen filters screwed down I'm not sure of the efficacy of that gap. Because the non GM version of this stuff is acash crop whole swathes of UK farms go bright yellow with it annually around May June time. The effect of it's toxic pollen is swine flu like symptoms that for people with respiratory conditions can require hospitalisation. What the effects of the GM version would have been had the eco "terrorist not removed the stuff I don't know perhaps we would have become Japanese whalers or glowed bright green at night!. Too much interference with nature and she hits back and not in a pleasant but we must not mock the gods at Monsanto etc or they will smite us with plagues of frogs and famine etc.

Thank You Cher. I can't always manage the petitions on change.org when they just ask for US addresses but this one was international so it's signed, no problem. Gosh, are we to be "djee-emmed" out of existence, I wonder?

Noted and petition signed.

I temped at Syngenta which does work on agriculture and plants and discussed some of the projects with the people involved. Some of the research that they do is of value eg GM rice with vit D for poor farmers in Asia and Indonesia as there is a lot of rickets, this has been going for several years without any harm. Other research has me puzzled and I'm still out on a lot of it. However, I am deeply concerned about making GE/GM plants part of our food chain or allowing it to fertilize plants in the wild until we understand how it affects us or even if it does. There is a lot of fear and potential for misunderstanding because there is insufficient information on what is happening. I am also wary about stopping SMALL trials (held in self contained greenhouses) but these large ones without proper research are very worrying. Once into the ecosystem they cannot be removed so companies, and governments, have to be careful. We need more information, more openess about potential problems and side-effects, better controls and slower developments. The trouble is that the companies want money and they want it now, they aren't worried about the same things that we are!!!!!

I'm also not sure that I would work at Syngenta again as I am unhappy with their behaviour in India.
