I'm on the side of the wildlife advocates and the cougars, naturally. Thanks, Cher.
From the article (there's more than this at the link)-
SALEM — Wildlife advocates are protesting the state’s move to expand a program to hunt cougars to reduce conflicts with livestock, big game, people and pets.

Opponents say it will only lead to more unnecessary hunting and killing of the big cats. ‘‘This kind of indiscriminate killing is the wrong way to go,’’ said Brian Vincent of the advocacy group Big Wildlife.

Wildlife officials have claimed some successes in the state-sponsored three-year-old program in which it has paid for hunting cougars in three management areas. Officials say 101 cougars have been killed since the program began.
Now, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is moving to designate four game management areas in northeast and southeast Oregon where cougars will be hunted to aid elk and mule deer populations. Officials say 90 cougars a year would be killed in the new areas.

Big Wildlife, the advocacy group, said the state’s cougar management program is a failed policy that ought to be halted, not expanded to the four new management areas. It said the state should try to encourage use of non-lethal means to control Oregon’s cougar population.
More cougar-proof livestock pens, bringing in pets at night and not leaving out pet food would help avoid conflicts with cougars, it said.
‘‘Instead of having a cougar killing plan, we should have an education plan in place, especially for people who live in cougar country,’’ Vincent said.

Thanks Cher!!!

Great article and I frankly am in totaly agreement with Brian Vincent who said "Instead of a couger killing plan, we should have an education plan in place, especially for people who live in cougar country". Great statement, Kudos to you Mr. Vincent!!!!

We as Mankind have taken over way to much of all of our animals space, and what we haven't taken over we have polluted, and what is Man's answer, "Well, UMMMMM let's see, let's shoot them".

Take a page out of this guy Brian Vincent and we should all send letters of thanks to him for being a wise and smart person...by the way Cher do you have his address, I would really like to applaud him for his SMART comment!!!

The only ones who need hunted down and killed and to cut down on the population is the hunters themself, who have a need to kill and the law makers who along with hunters have caused this problem in the first place.Man had to control our wildlife and look at it now. These people have lied to this very point and they are fat liers and worthless to make any sound judgements and should be kicked out of office. You gonna go have hunters kill these and meanwhile research is finding ways to reproduce more, while we think they are working to find cures for cancer ect,you freakin liers! You don't even know your ass from the ground you walk on or know how much of a lier you are to get what you want. You cannot be TRUSTED!

Just another excuse to kill. That's one of the reason for the wild horse explosion, no natural predators, elimated by hunters. Natural predators are endorsed by wild horse advocates as the missing link for that ecosystem. So just bring back the predators and open the corrals and let the horses have their freedom.

All forms of hunting should be confined to the rubbish bin of history.
Thanks Cher.

There is an explosion of population of humans happening. Just about every major problem on Earth, "too many people" is at the root of them.

We track numbers of all species of life on Earth, to make efforts to manipulate and control, and call it biology. We decide how much is "enough" , "not enough", or "too many" to all of Earth's lifeforms.

Ops, I should have said "all species of life,,, except humans".
Why can't we apply that same biology to our own numbers?

There aren't too many cougars, there is too many people...
