Just 50 years ago there were close to a half-million lions in Africa -- about 450,000 in all. Today there are between 16,000 and 23,000. And yet, unlike elephants (a far more numerous species), lions have no protection under the international accord

There is no truer savage than man!

How does one compare 6.8 billion humans
with 16,000 & 23,000 big cats?

When will the protection come if it
ever comes in time.

Protection has come a tad late,
if anything this problem should have
been initiated fifty years ago!

Finally, the biggest problem of all is
human population. We/man are
saturating every inch of the earth and
crowding out even the smallest of land
animals............We need the PILL!!

Bigtime...............

Plant trees for life....................

This is sad that the lion are not protected. It is the king of the jungle. This proud animal should be protected, but yeahh, ask the South African government to help to preserve and they just turn a blind eye. They are BLIND for the truth.

Absolutely horrible to imagine losing these big cats. I agree...overpopulation is the problem. They keep encroaching on their habitats, and without protection and intervention, they don't stand a chance. In florida, the panthers are dying because development won't be stopped. Just how many more empty spec homes and retail centers do we need? It is about the greed of the towns for more property taxes and greed of the developers for cash too. Sickening that nothing will be done. Then there is the chinese medicine trade....killing big cats because they believe in their magical powers to increase male potency? Utterly ridiculous and disgusting.

call for a total ban of hunting, trapping and use of poisons in Africa, stricter legislation against poaching and harsher penalty for trading "animal" products :(

That time is now :)
