It's great that the people working to save these tigers just won't give up! They've been so close a couple of times only to see it fall through, and they just keep working it. I hope they get these poor tigers out of there Very Soon!!

From the article
===========
Besides the Colorado sanctuary, the Gente Por La Defensa Animal in Mexico City and California-based Last Chance for Animals have set up a website to encourage letter writing, phone calls and other efforts to persuade the Mexican government to move fast on saving the tigers: savethecancuntigers.com.

======================================================================================

Cher, I still have the share on this issue and have been sending my letters every day. Finally received a very official reply stating that though it is not normally done (not their jurisdiction) a HUGE enquiry is now in the process to resolve the plight of these Tigers. (My friend Cid translated the Spanish for me)

Even though I've received this reply I still send my emails every day. Relentless pressure is what will crack this nut.

Here is a the Spanish version of my letter translated by a Care2 member.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Distinguidas Autoridades Mexicanas
De mis consideraciones:
ANTECEDENTES
En 2004, el huracán Wilma arrasó varios hoteles y tiendas de Cancún, incluyendo el Restaurante de Pepe. Al huir Gil José Juarez (Pepe), propietario del mencionado restaurante, dejó sus éxoticos gatos salvajes entrampados en los escombres. Pepe no contaba con los recursos para poder acomodar y cuidar de los animales que el solía exhibir en las cenas. Pero en lugar de albergar los animales en un santuario adecuado, les dejó que escapara, murieran o se pudrieran dentro de sus prisiones de hormigón y acero.
PETICIÓN
Respetuosamente solicito a ustedes transferir los tigres sobrevivients de Pepe al Santuario de Fauna Salvaje TWA (un antiguo refugio para leones, tigres, osos y lobos cautivos, que rehabilita animales salvajes dejándolos vivir en forma natural dentro de en un terreno de aprox. 8 hectáreas, en los pastizales del estado de Colorado.
Enitendo que TWAS, en sociedad con el grupo mexicano de bienestar animal, Gente por la Defensa Animal y la organización californiana Last Chance for Animals, ha iniciado un plan de reubicación, luego que la agencia mexica PROFEPA rescindió los permisos de vida silvestre de Juárez.
Pero la misión de rescate jamás tuvo lugar. En lugar de eso PROFEPA pretende transportar los tigres por vía terrestre a instalaciones provisioneales cerca de Ciudad de México mientras se resuelven las respectivas acciones legales. Estos pobres y maltratados tigres lo último que necesitan es un viaje por carretera que podría deteriora aún más su delicada salud, aparte de todo el estrés adicional. Además, podrían terminar languediciendo dentro de jaulas durante meses o hasta años, mientras se ejecutan las acciones legales.
Nos informan que existe una tigresa que camina arrastrando sus extremidades posteriores. Los animales han estado subsistiendo de agua contaminada y restos de comida, dentro de jaulas de cuatro metros, sobre capas formadas por sus propias heces. Se les ha negado cuidados veterinarios. Sin embargo, a pesar de negociaciones que comenzaron en 2008, las autoridades mexicanas aún no autorizan su transferencia al centro TWAS.
Señores, no permitan que la bien ganada fama internacional de Cancún sea mancillada. Como gran admirador de México, confío que ustedes tomarán la piadosa y acertada decisión de permitir que estos tigres vivan dentro del Wild Animal Sanctuary, en habitats naturales, provistos de nutrición adecuada y el debido cuidado veterinario.
Muchas gracias,
==================================================================================
PLEASE KEEP SENDING THOSE EMAILS! WITHOUT MASSIVE INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT DOES NOT GIVE A HOOT ABOUT THESE TIGERS - JUST CONSIDER THE LENGTH OF TIME THEY HAVE SPENT IN THEIR MISERABLE SURROUNDIINGS, WITH BROKEN AND DISLOCATED LEGS!
Emailed all the above Mexican people, but when I copied and pasted the email addresses, I needed to remove the inverted commas from the start and end of each email address, otherwise I could not get them to send -- others may not find this, but I did. Thanks for the letter, Eureka.
Pat Craig does a very good job with the Keenesburg Sanctuary. Not all of the private "wildlife" sanctuaries in the US are good for the animals. Pat has taken in many animals from these bad sancruaries. He is a saint. Thanks for sharing this story and the email addy's. Let's hope everybody does the right thing.
Sent this to that email list, and copied Calderon on his web site contact page (it's a hassle, LOL)
Buenos Dias,
Please consider releasing the 15 tigers in the Cancun restaurant, to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado USA. It is our understanding that these tigers are being kept in unhealthy conditions, and would be better cared for at the Wildlife Animal Sanctuary. We understand that the legal owner wants to keep them, and that creates a conflict in efforts to move them to a better place.
I am certain that my email is being received by dignified, honorable and respected humans in your fine country, and the USA's close neighbor. Please consider tigers as dignified, honorable and respected members of the animal kingdom.
Tigers are God's living jewels and decorate our world with grace and beauty. I write to you, not as a political effort, as National Wildlife Humane Society is not a political organization, we are a wildlife conservation organization. I write to you, asking you to find a way to allow these big cats a clean and wholesome place to live out their lives.
Our supporters and membership is world-wide and our members have expressed great concern over these 15 tigers, and the poor conditions they are living in. We are extending this concern to you, in the hopes that a positive outcome can be resolved. We would dearly love to convey a positive message back to our membership, and allow them to know that your fine nation of Mexico shares their concern over the well being of these very majestic animals.
Respectfully,
Patrick D. Webb
Thanks Cher! Also, thanks Eureka...
I know that I have been involved with trying to get these wonderful Tigers out of the H-E-L-L hole that they are in in Mexico. Just when we think we have WON a huge battle, it gets stopped. The video of the Tigers in these horible living conditions are just way to heartbreaking to watch.
This is NO way for a special creature to exist, it is just torture at the worst form.
We must get them out of this place, so hard when you keep trying and then at the last minute get blocked...just makes me jump off the notebook for awhile and sob.
From the article at the site, it sounds like we only have a couple of days before they meet again, so I will write all the letters I can, and also there is a link on the site, but I will have to go back to check it out, wanted to get this in before I did just in case I lost it.
We need to jump on this, very important these Tigers need a life, not a concrete cage, they are going to die SOON if they do not get out of this place NOW...and into the Scantuary.
You guys are fabulous, now we just have to pray that this is enough for these precious Tigers and get them out, we probably can still use more, we have to FLOOD them and let us be the voice for all of those voiceless Tigers that are suffering so horribly!
Makes me just ill, the video was enough on the site to make me dream about these special creatures.
Just horrid the way Mankind treats our special creatures that we are "lucky" enough to share this World with.
When they are gone through all of Man's Greed and selfishness, we are the ones that will suffer, they have gone through enough agony, but all of the future generations will remember what our "generation" did to deny them all of the Special Creatures that were meant to be free and not abused this way.
Get them out of there, we have to accomplish this for these creatures who have done nothing to deserve this treatment, just way to upsetting for me.
Thanks again all of you special people!!!
Thanks Cher for your news and Eureka all of the special E-MAILS you have put out there and forwards too. You guys are the special people that, just sometimes we do make it...then after we do we can celebrate!
Until then, we must keep going, fight the fight for these creatures and don't give up, don't be a few letters short, this is sooooooo important.
Mission Impossible??? Let's make this Mission Miracle!!! Then and only then when these Tigers are put in the scantuary will I calm down a little.
Sending a message to Calderon is a very daunting task. Once you translate the fields and put in the proper info into the correct fields then submit, then you have to register. Took me an hour to figure that out. LOL
I had to furnish a lot of personal info to get the registration to go through. Hope the "Federales" don't show up at my door now. LOL
We need to find out who the head honcho of the state Cancun is in (Quintana Roo) or the city of Cancun. We need a fluent C2 member to create the wording in both Spanish and English, and create a petition to be sent to them.
If any C2 members live in Mexico, and care about these tigers, them maybe they can fill us in on who does what down there, concerning captive wildlife. Keep in mind, if the tigers are classified as "generic" then they are not considered officially endangered by international law (or IUCN). Some countries however, do not adhere to the "generic" classification within their own laws, and consider all tigers as endangered (as should be).
It would be nice if people who care about this issue, would do more than a hit and run on this article (then not come back again) possibly using this thread to actually get some things started. I don't think Wildlife Animal Sanctuary has a group here, and the NWHS group is dead and may soon be deleted.
Maybe there is an active C2 group where this effort could be moved to.
A petition, with a valid decision making Mexican recipient (or several), would be a great start.
Thanks for posting the news!
Please sign the petition from GEPDA Mexico that we will deliver personally to PROFEPA, the agency that is blocking the rescue.
Individual emails are read, and you will only receive an email saying they are aware of the problem and are looking into it, but since you have not presented a formal complaint, they only acknowledge your email and that's it.
Gente Por La D. (1)
Sorry, the petition address didn't show in my comment, we are delivering it personally to the directors of SEMARNAT and PROFEPA
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/3/save-the-cancun-tigers-ASAP
GEPDA is based in Mexico and we are working with PROFEPA the agency that issues permits for keeping wildlife, the same people that blocked the rescue at the last minute. One of us is trying to get to the Cancun people, but this is a federal case because it involves wildlife.
If I may, I will contact each of you personally to get your information and then file a formal complaint. Otherwise, the emails just put pressure on them but it is not their obligation to follow up on the case.
