We have been informed by the UKs Royal Navy that they did not conduct active sonar operations as part of exercise Joint Warrior within the Moray Firth in Scotland, and that any military activities that did take place in the North Sea were carried out

That is, indeed, a victory for the cetaceans. My son in the US Navy just told me how deadly active sonar is to whales and dolphins. Thank you, Cher. This is a most encouraging article.

'WDCS believes that the same strict protection approach to protecting the dolphins within the SAC extends out to all cetaceans in all UK waters.' I couldn't agree more. Noted.

The RN are very conscious of the impact that they make and I am delighted to hear how careful they were of the cetaceans in the protected area.

Perhaps the US Navy could take a leaf out of the RN's book and consider the terrible destrution that they perpetrate when using sonar uncontrollably.
