In October, the carcass of a young Siberian tiger was found in Russia's Far East with two bullet holes in its skull. Experts say the animal was most probably shot by hunters in pursuit of illegal prey.

Hunters, loos of habitant, human encroachment, the same dire fate for another group of majestic cats. Dreadful news, Cher, but we should know about these alarms during this fifth period of extinctions.

OH GRRRRRRR

Why don't they just leave these wonderful and special creatures alone...I am so UPSET I can't speak...in fact, if I open my mouth right now I will probably just end up yelling like a Nut case!!!

These special creatures need space, they need freedom, they don't need to be on the floor (their skins) bullet holes in the head.

I want to get that rotten person and Ya Know what to them...

Ticked off!!

Great news article and thanks for getting this out there...people need to know, the more the better, but isn't there anything that we can do to help these special animals???? I am so upset that I am sobbing right now!

My annual birthday present from my hubby is an adopted tiger from WWF. I used to work with someone at Imperial College who is a biologist/conservationist working with Russian conservation groups. These peoples love for their wildlife was shown by them giving up a month's salary to buy a vehicle to work with their animals.

In remote wildlife sanctuaries in Russia, the late Gerald Durrell found that the rangers received a very small remuneration but their animals meant so much to them that were happy to stay to look after them.

It is sad that the few rich men in, what was Russia, (who are probably the Russian Mafia) take advantage of this to shoot bears who were asleep in their den (leaving cubs to die) and to shoot these beautiful and wonderful animals because they are rare and because they can! What a disaster for the species and a waste of a life.

Such beautiful creatures put on this earth are not here for man's greed. They belong here as much as we do. Where is the humanity?

it never seems to end does it! everytime they begin to gain a foothold and stablize, man steps in and begins the slaughter , again! and you get to point the finger dirsecytly at the asian mombo jumbo medicine bunch.or those who want those beautiful skins drapped across there backs or couches.as long as there are no reallt harsh penalties then the slaughter will continue.as long as we continue making the punishment a mere lil slap on the wrist then it will continue, unfortunately . all animals are beautiful, but the big cat, hold a special beauty,it combines strength and beauty with speed and intelligence.why do man waant that beauty hung on a wall? drapped over a chair,or on someones back! we are truely the most discusting of speciesand the only reason we are at the top is because we have developed weapons to kill better at a distance, because on our own , with out them,we would have ceased to exsist as a species milliums ago! and the earth would be a far better place ! thanks Cher
